I feel like good overall health and good genetics contribute to fixing that problem.

But seriously, I can imagine this is aberrant but fixable.

I've observed that sometimes, even though I am logged in, I am directed to pages where apparently I am not logged in (my user name is not at the top, the menu says "log in"), and there are ads. This has gone one for years; the only way to stop it has been to use an ad-blocker, which one shouldn't have to do as a Gold Member. And by "stop it", I mean just hiding the ads; I'm still taken to those "unlogged-in" pages at times, inexplicably.

Strange -- google ads shouldn't in theory be doing that. Hopefully it's a one off.

gracious: If you ever get redirected to an ad page as a GM please note the exact page that sent you there (or a link you click). Copy/paste the URL for me.

As you say, these should not be happening, and is a bugs that needs to be fixed. I need the details to track them down though.

Thanks.

Terry, I'm gold & occasionally getting ads too lately. It started happening when traffic increased on the site due to most of the world's population with Internet access being locked inside. If it happens during a timed game, I either keep playing or decide to not play that game so I get half a second added to my score. Usually clicking to another page gets rid of the ad.

What I found the oddest thing about the ads is when they show up with the answers on Golld Member only games. If there is one place on this site ads shouldn't be on, it is for Gold only access. To me, that helps symbolize how world is a tad screwed up now and with patience it will go away.

Mira -- please, I need *specific examples* of exact pages (URLs. copied and pasted) that this is happening in order to have a chance of fixing it.

That isn't an aberration, I had that happen several times recently when revisiting my favorite hobbies folder.

Also, even worse, is that sporadically in the games there will be individual questions that the page refuses to accept a click for, only to do so if I refresh the page. It doesn't happen often enough for me to notice any pattern, might be another advertising-related thing.

I'm sorry, Terry. I meant to convey I take little notice of the ads except to be amused by them on the Obscurity and Gold
Madness answers. Wait ... a clue. That's where *I* see the ads and the ads began when those games were opened to
non-gold members. The next time I notice an ad in my Gold Gloriousness I'll take more notice & copy the URL.

It happens sporadically, with no discernible pattern, but I will definitely take note of the page and the referring page when it happens again. I'll keep my ad-blocker off, too, so I won't miss it.

Please define "Lockup". Did you see an ad?

It wouldn't accept any of the choices I attempted to click on. No advertisements involved.

Same happened now in the animals hard game, question 5. It ended up only allowing me to choose the fourth choice, which was wrong.

Hm sounds like something specific to your browser or computer. That javascript that handles the answer selection has not changed in about 15 years.

Scan for spyware / adware? Update to new browser version? Try a different browser?

This was also my thought as I haven't seen the ads in these games. Might come from having a bad toolbar or extension or otherwise (if you're on PC).

Okay, it happened for Obscurity Last Month's rankings. What happened? An ad. Specifically, an ad for added insurance if you are on Medicare.

https://www.funtrivia.com/hourly3/lastmonth_scores.html

When did it happen? Maybe less than five minutes before this post. I had to go back three pages to find this thread.

The "last month" pages are static and rendered from a guest account (note that they do show the "log in" prompt at the top even if you are signed in). That means they can contain an ad simply because the system doesn't know you're a GM at that point!

(I think it's the only page type that has that problem. Use an adblocker if you visit them often smile )

It doesn't bother me to see the ad. I checked all the other pages. You knew I had to that, right, Wesley? wink
It only shows up on the Obscurity page. It is also the same ad. I was expecting to see at least a different ad after four look sees.

Edit Reason: To fix what autocorrect did. It is always the fault of autocorrect.

Terry, it has happened again. Here is the info about the specific instance:

The ads appeared at https://www.funtrivia.com/hourly3/lastmonth_scores.html
The referring URL was https://www.funtrivia.com/hourly3/cumulative.cfm

The ads were as follows:
https://cdnx.tribalfusion.com/media/common//adChoice/icon/ad_choices_i_UR.png
https://cdnx.tribalfusion.com/media/common//adChoice/icon/ad_choices_UR.png

This happened about an hour or two ago. (It is now 7:21 pm EST). I am sorry I cannot be more specific about the time, but something was going on at home at the time and I could not log the incident until now.

This is particularly troublesome as I use uBlock Origin, which should have blocked the ad anyway.

Do you need a screenshot as well?
