I got a correction this morning, that I promptly took care of. Not ten seconds after fixing the correction and sending a note off to the editors, I get this lovely little note from the person making the correction:

In reply to:

I think you should not be so picky on the song titles and movie titles because i took the quiz and answered all the questions right but i didn't put them in the right tense or quotations. i don't think that is fair. i actually took it twice. once without quotations and once with " and it was still wrong. since when do you put signs of life as 'signs of life'???? or any of the songs. so i think ya should give me a 100% right on my quiz cause technically i was correct. thank you. good quiz though

So, I sent him/her a note back saying that I'm just following the rules of the site. I explained to this person that I can't give them the points they think they deserve. I wish people would read the rules before playing quizzes. Hopefully, this player will now let the issue drop. I don't understand why people get so up in arms, it's not like we play for prizes or money.

I agree, but it might need to be checked for any possible glitches Indie. Go ahead and pm me with the name and number if it's a song quiz. I got one like this for my own quizzes.
If the quotation marks were in a fill in the blank answer, then that's a problem.
I agree that in the past when I've gotten messages like this, I get irked, and then I try to rule out any possibility that it might be a glitch. I go and take my own quiz and get it wrong on purpose, or see if the case sensitivity is not working or something.

Indie, one last thing, I've gotten a lot of these messages and they rarely seem to have punctuation in them...odd isn't it?

IQ, I know just how you feel, I got an irate message recently from a quiztaker who hadn't actually read the question properly and therefore didn't give the correct answer. I get many more nice compliments though, and that's what makes it worthwhile and makes you glad you had bothered to write the quiz in the first place. From the way your correspondent was writing I would guess that he/she is quite a young person. Hopefully they will mature and learn. Don't be too disheartened.

One of them was my fault. I made a song title two words when it should have been one. I've gone into each of my quizzes and put "Please use quotation marks" in the hint for any fill-in-the blank question requiring them. One was a bit messed up, it had an apostrophe instead of quotation marks.

I'm just a bit ticked because this person has played a grand total of three quizzes (all mine by the way) and decides to fire off a nasty note. I have a problem with people who have a sense of entitlement. Especially when there is nothing at stake. Cripe, it's happened to me, I've left out the quotation marks when answering a question and I don't fire off a nasty note. I say "My bad" and move on.

I save the nice notes I get, they remind me of why I do this.

I've noticed that too Heather. Punctuation is rarely present, grammar usually leaves something to be desired and capital letters are just right out. And they're correcting us

By the way Indie my most famous ooops thing was when I said quite politely to Crisw that wasn't "dalmation" misspelled...and she said, "no, it's spelled like Dalmatia".
You see, I was so used to listening to the 101 Dalmatians tape and hearing "We'll have a dalmatian sensation..." I put an o!
Oh, another good one, someone told me "You misspelled Danielle Steele's name so I got the answer wrong." I went and changed it, thinking I'd blown it.
Then I got another message, it doesn't have an e!
Half of the web pages put the e on it!

Best story of all is all the Britney fans who were so very sweet with me writing...Jason Timberlake instead of Justin...I got about 21 messages and they were all sweet!

Indie, I've just located the problem on one of those...I'll PM you shortly. As it happened to be in one of my "aisles" I checked it out.

Eds, do fill in the blank song titles have to be in quotes? Surely authors should accept no quotes for FITB?

Fill-in-the-blank song titles (where the song title is the only answer in the blank) do not have quotes around them. Quotes go in when the song title is within the sentence.

Terry, see the notes from the discussion the editors had on this (I brought it up for you).

I've already written a message to Indie as I got in and found the one mentioned as it was in music.
We'll get it straightened out. Guess we didn't really anticipate that it might happen this way so didn't catch it.

I just logged on and got Heather's note. I'm fixing things up right now It was partly my fault, partly the player's fault. But, I'll fix it up and chalk it up to learning.
