Bush a moron? Molly Ivins said it years ago! It's old hat for us! You should hear what we say about Chretien! (In fact, you should hear what some CANADIANS say about Chretien.) I used to like the guy, but in recend weegs, 'e 'as establizhed 'imself as an apologiste pour Ozama bin Loudin, eh?

We still sort of like him down here, largely because he talks funny, partially because of the Bell's Palsy (Yanks are merciless!!!), and more obscurely because we suspect that without him in the PM's chair in '95, Quebec would be a separate country that our kids would have to learn the capital of in geography. Can you imagine the anthem? (And, worse yet, quelle Qubecoise would invariably be designated to SING the d----d thing?)

I think WE love him for the same reasons! Celine would sing the anthem, of course! The anthem thing is interesting. Tomorrow is the Grey Cup (halcyon of Canadian Football) and the anthem is only going to be sung in English! Oh MY! It's creating quite a stir. Shania will be there as the half-time entertainment...I wonder if she's slated to sing the Anglified version?

To be fair, Shania should sing the Native Canadian/aboriginal peoples/Canadian PC version, Celine should sing the version for Francophone women with big jaws who marry their grandfathers, and Ashley MacIsaac should sing the Scottish/Celtic/Cape Breton/Nova Scotian/kilt-wearing-with-nothing-underneath version. Neither Rita McNeil nor Joe Clark were harmed in the making of the aforementioned alleged Canadian jokes.

You bluenoses obviously have no conception of geography. We knowledgeable Yanks know that Canada is composed of two cities near the border, Trawna and Montreal, and that from there you only have drive several miles north, past a lot of polar bears, to reach the North Pole.

ET? I've heard a few old folks back east mention a place called Florida or something! I think it's down there, somewhere! Supposedly it's warm...with TRAILERS!

Yeah Lefois --- I've heard of that place too --- it's called "Hurricane County" isn't it? Then again, we can't forget about "Tornado County" either can we?
(Of course I'm one to talk here as it seems like I live in Canada's "Tornado Alley" --- we have one, of some description, go through the area every 2 or 3 years. )

You guys should know Florida, because Dania and Hallandale, near Miami, are inhabited almost entirely by Canadian people with funny license plates that say something about "Jamie's souvenirs" (or some such), and who talk some kind of weird language that has no pauses between words.

Arrrrggggghhh!
I just saw on CNN that one of tomorrow's feature discussions will be "Does Canada Deserve Our Respect" (or something very close to that). Geez! All because an aide made a snide aside and it was overheard? George W did that himself, as I recall!
It wasn't a public statement. It wasn't made from, or on, a podium. The US gov't would have to turn on many of its own if a "discouraging word" about George were the criteria.
What does worry me is that when the US president does "raise a flag" and you don't salute it in the appropriate way, you're immediately on the "Wrong Side of the Issue". Seems like there's no room for civilized discussion anymore. What if you agree with the importance of the issue, but not the tactics? What if you have different ideas to offer? Hello? I don't think anyone's home! Isn't every government free to decide what approach their country will take? Who is changing the rules, here? We lost four of our own young men last year in a training exercise...in Afghanistan! We may not be mighty, but we're there.
Frankly this is making me NOT so "excessively modest", as the title of the chain suggests. The Canadian Government is FREE to debate and come to it's own conclusions for the good of this country, other countries and the world as a whole! God knows we've done our share and then some in previous world conflicts. If you don't know about any of that, then read up on it!
I'll sit down now. Sorry. I kinda lost it, there. We'll see what tomorrow brings.

Yes, I'd better watch is, sis! Pretty soon they'll be calling me "lenoise" instead of lefois! I watched Crossfire today, and it wasn't nearly as denegrating as I was expecting. We had a very good defender from a Canadian political show. James Carville, at least, likes us, and Bob Novak and the other columnist leading the frontal attack ended up looking verbose and silly with inaccurate, sensationalised facts. Guess we're all still friends!

The interesting thing about traveling in Canada is that ya'll are just as much different from east to west as folks in the US. There's a more laid back style in the west than in the east, although just about everyone is nice up there.

Good god... is Chretien really going to hang around until 2004? Can't we resurrect Trudeau? Lester Pearson?
