The NFL season is just a few weeks away. NOTE: threads may change due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Rules: - One point for a correct tip.
- Deadline is always Friday midnight FT time. One point will be deducted for late tips, after a period of grace of two hours past the deadline. (see below for Thursday game issue)
- Late starters come in at the lowest score, or lowest active tipper if the lowest tipper has not tipped for four consecutive weeks.
- Default score will be a straight six points, unless wooden spoon score is higher, whether there are 13 games or 16 games in the week.
- Tips not in by kickoff Sunday (at 1pm Eastern time) receive default score.
- Thursday games: tips must be in at the time specified on threads with a Thursday game. Games will be noted with a star after them. Your tip will not count if it is past the time, even by one minute, which will be about 1˝ to 2˝ hours prior to kickoff. Thursday/Saturday games (except where noted) start at 8:20pm Eastern time. For US Thanksgiving Day (Week 12), all three games must be tipped by the Thursday morning (FT time) deadline.
- In the rare case of a tie, no one will earn a point, unless a tie is tipped, as ties CAN be tipped in the National Football League.
- In the case of the Football Locks website not getting updated, our backup site is Fantasy Data.
Bonus points: - One point will be awarded for a solo pick (or one of two if 12+ tippers, or one of three if 20+).
- One point if a player scores 12+/13, 12+/14, 13+/15, or 13+/16.
- Ineligible for bonus if player picks all homes or all bar one.
- Ineligible for bonus if player tips all the favored teams for the week or all bar one. If a favorite changes after the favorites are posted, we will use the favorites originally posted by the organizer, which will be by midnight FT on Monday night. A game with a PK spread is always the home team per our Football Locks/Fantasy Data website.

| Welcome to the 2020 NFL season tipping comp. This year 15 runners were in the gates when they jumped. That's two down on last year's 17 .. PaulE, the defending titleholder, N-Bomb and gillyharold are MIA and Llynfi joins us for his debut appearance. Welcome aboard!
The all-time NFL record attendance was ten years ago way back in 2010, when we had a field of 29 participate. The all-time record for any FT comp is the field of 32 in the 2003-04 Champions League comp. It's unlikely we will ever see those numbers in here again.
Daaanieeel is our leader after week one with picks of 12/16. Behind him, there's a three-way tie for 2nd place .. and at the other end, two aussies are bringing up the rear of the field with humungous picks of 6/16.
dg_dave is away as he's been called inter-state. Normal transmission will resume when he returns in a few weeks. Until next week, everyone, score a touchdown ... and kick a P.A.T. too! |

| With four of the 16 games ending in an upset, all on the road, plus one tied game picked by no-one and only six home wins, our average strike rate fell back to the mid 50s or 9/16.
Daaanieeel retains the lead. His margin has been shaved from 2 points to a mere point. The first five players are now separated by just 2 pts .. and the next six are also separated by just 2 points. In other words, 5 points cover the first eleven.
dg_dave is due back from inter-state in a few days. Normal transmission will resume next week. Until next week, everyone score a touchdown ... and then kick a P.A.T. too! |

Of note: because the second game will start at nearly 9pm EDT, results will not be up until late afternoon/early evening EDT tomorrow. I have an early shift, meaning for a 6am wake-up call.

| First off, I'd like to thank gtho4 for pinch hitting for me on the loss of my mother recently. I only had my phone, and had no way to post results with it, so thank you again for stepping in temporarily!
We had some surprises, and we had many go the way we thought they would, as we had two games picked by everyone, and five more picked by all but one.
With that, we shall go...
On to the games:
In New Jersey, in the battle of winless teams, someone had to come out on top, right? Well, maybe not, if you remember the Eagles and Bengals tied last week. In the first, the Jets cruised behind the legs of Sam Darnold, who scored from 46 out. The Broncos answered with a field goal, trailing 7-3 after one. In the second, the teams reversed scores, as the Broncos got a score from Brian Rypien from 48, then the Jets answered with a field goal, knotting the game at 10. After the two minute warning, each team scored once more before the break...the Broncos with a Melvin Gordon touchdown, and the Jets with a field goal, to trail at the break 17-13. In the third, Sam Ficken got the Jets within one, but Denver answered with a touchdown to go into the final 15 minutes leading 24-16. In the fourth, things started getting sloppy. Both teams got field goals early, but then Rypien threw a pick six, however, the 2pt conversion was missed, leaving Denver ahead by two, at 27-25. The teams traded field goals again, then just after the two minute warning, Gordon again scored, this time from 43, and the Broncos pulled out a victory over the Jets, 37-28. Despite Rypien throwing three interceptions, his team won.
In Charlotte, the scoreline in this one was closer than the game looked. Carolina got things started with a pair of scores in the first, staking a 14-0 lead. In the second, Arizona would get on the board, but gave the score right back, trailing 21-7 at the break. The third quarter saw the same scenario, so Carolina still held a 14 point lead going into the fourth. In the fourth, Arizona held Carolina to a field goal, but scored a touchdown themselves, losing to the Panthers, 31-21. The tale of the tape: Carolina gained 444 and Arizona only 262.
In Chicago, this one was a defensive struggle, as neither team racked up 300 yards in offense (289-269). Philip Rivers would get things started with a touchdown strike, giving the Colts a 7-0 lead after one. In the second, it was nothing but kicking, as the Bears got one, and the Colts got two, taking a 13-3 lead into the locker room. In the third, Rodrigo Blankenship hit his third field goal. In the fourth, he did it again, but Chicago was able to break through, and got the 2pt after to slice the lead to eight, but with under two left, they couldn't get it back to even, and the Bears lost at home, 19-11.
In Cincinnati, the defenses failed to show up in this one, as Cincinnati rolled up 505 yards, while Jacksonville gained 429. Cincinnati got things started with a Randy Bullock field goal, but Gardner Minshew answered with a touchdown pass, giving the Jags a 7-3 lead after one. In the second, the Jags got the field goal, and Cincinnati answered with a touchdown, knotting the game at 10 with under a minute left before the break. Minshew was able to get the Jags down to the 2 and Aldrick Rosas gave the Jaguars a 13-10 lead at the break. In the third, after the coach lit a fire under the Bengals, they scored three times to take a 27-13 lead into the final 15. In the fourth, it was mainly a back and forth effort, as twice, the kickers canceled one another out, but in between those, the Jags did get a score from Minshew, and the Bengals held on for a 33-25 victory.
In Arlington, Texas, defense? What's that? Both teams gave up over 500 yards to the other, with Dallas gaining 566, and Cleveland gaining 508. Cleveland's defense (what showed up anyway) was able to contain Ezekiel Elliott and the run game, as the Browns only gave up 85 yards on the ground. In the first, it wasn't Baker Mayfield who got the scoring started, it was Jarvis Landry, who threw his first touchdown pass to Odell Beckham. Dak Prescott answered with one of his own, then gave the Cowboys the lead with another strike, and the Cowboys held a 14-7 advantage. In the second, it was all Cleveland, as they scored 24 straight to take a 31-14 lead into the break. It was more of the same in the third, as Cleveland scored ten more to hold a big 41-14 lead into the final frame. Dak Prescott got a fire lit under him, and made it a game with three straight touchdown drives and 2pt conversions, to trail 41-38, but it wasn't meant to be as Cleveland did get into the end zone one more time. The Cowboys have many questions to answer after this one, losing to the Browns to the delight of Dizart (even though he picked Dallas), 49-38. Dak Prescott threw for 502 in this one, and was his third straight game with 450 or more.
In Detroit, this one had all sorts of issues. From false positive COVID tests to short-handed teams, to other records getting set, this one had it all. Detroit started the scoring with two straight touchdown passes, but the Saints got one back to trail after one, 14-7. In the second, the Saints kept the rhythm rolling, scoring three more touchdowns, and led 28-14 at the break. In the third, the teams traded touchdowns, then in the fourth, Adrian Peterson (AP) got into the act with a score. It just wasn't enough, as the Saints held on to win over the Lions, 35-29. Michael Burton had a false positive test, which could have hurt the team, already down six starters. On Detroit's side, it was the sixth straight loss when leading by 10 or more.
In Houston, in another game of winless teams, would one come out on top? Minnesota was hoping to, as they scored a touchdown in the first, taking a 7-0 lead. In the second, the teams traded field goals before Dalvin Cook got his second touchdown run to take a 17-3 lead. Ka'imi Fairbairn would try to give the Texans a little momentum before the break, hitting another field goal, but trailing 17-6. In the third, Houston would score a field goal and a touchdown to get within one, but Minnesota extended it back to eight with a touchdown strike. In the fourth, both teams got a score, but it wouldn't be enough for Houston, as they lose at home to the Vikings, 31-23.
In Miami, this game was pretty even overall. Seattle gained 441, while Miami gained 415. Seattle got on the board first with a Chris Carson run, then the teams traded field goals to give Seattle a 10-3 lead after one. Miami came back with a pair of field goals to get within one, but just before the break, Russell Wilson gave Seattle a bit of breathing room, taking a 17-9 lead into the break. In the third, Miami only got a field goal, but kept Seattle off the board, trailing by 5 with 15 to play. In the fourth, Jason Sanders hit his fourth field goal to get within two, but Seattle pulled away a bit, holding a 31-15 lead with four left. Miami did get into the end zone once again, but couldn't complete the comeback, losing at home to the Seahawks, 31-23.
In Tampa, Tom Brady may have a new home, but he's still got what it takes. In the first, Brady got this started with a touchdown pass, but the Chargers weren't fazed, as they scored to tie it, then on the Charger 22 yard line, Michael Davis took Brady's pass the other way for a pick-six. The Chargers led 14-7 after one. In the second, Los Angeles scored twice (TD then FG) before Brady answered with a touchdown of his own, and Tampa trailed by 10 at the break, 24-14. In the third, Brady became Brady (even at age 43), and got the Bucs ahead for the first time since the 7-0 lead, however, Los Angeles wasn't cowering down, taking a 31-28 lead into the fourth. It didn't hold, as Brady threw his fifth touchdown pass (sixth if you count the pick-six), giving the Bucs the lead they would not relinquish. Ryan Succop finished the scoring with a field goal, and the Bucs defeated the Chargers, 38-31.
In Nashville, COVID-19 was running rampant in the Titans locker room, and the game got postponed to Week 7. Tipping threads have already been modified.
In Landover, Maryland, Washington was able to contain Lamar Jackson some, holding him to under 200 yards in the air, but would that be enough by itself? From the way it looked, they could contain him, but not Mark Ingram. Ingram got the scoring started with a short touchdown run, giving the Ravens a 7-0 lead after one. In the second, Jackson scored from midfield (on the ground), staking the Ravens to a 14-0 advantage. Washington wouldn't give up, as they scored a touchdown, but then gave it back. As the clock expired on the first half, Dustin Hopkins got the Washington Football Team (seems so odd to say) to a 21-10 deficit. In the third, Jackson did get off a touchdown pass to Mark Andrews, and had a 28-10 lead after three. In the fourth, the teams traded scores, but Washington got a touchdown, while holding Baltimore to a field goal, and the Ravens were victorious over the former Redskins (I wish they'd pick a name so that I can use team names), 31-17.
In Los Angeles, this one was also a defensive struggle, as again, neither team crossed 300 yards (295-240). Los Angeles would get things started with a touchdown run, holding a 7-0 lead after one. In the second, the kickers went crazy, as the Giants hit two field goals, and the Rams one, keeping the Rams ahead, 10-6, at the break. it wasn't until the fourth that the G-men got another Graham Gano field goal, but Goff and company got one more score of their own, this one to Cooper Kupp, and the Rams may have been sloppy (they were the ones who gained only 240), but a win is a win, defeating the Giants, 17-9.
In Kansas City, this game almost didn't get played because of COVID. Cam Newton tested positive, and the Chiefs had a player on their practice squad test positive. While the game played, it wasn't until Monday evening. The defenses held up well in the first half, as Harrison Butker hit two field goals in the first, and Nick Folk hit one in the second. It wasn't until late in the third that Mahomes broke through for a touchdown pass. The Chiefs led 13-3 after three. In the fourth, Jarrett Stidham, in place of the benched Brian Hoyer, got the Pats within three, but Mahomes got one back, then the Chiefs D got one on the very next play, giving the Chiefs a 26-10 victory over the Patriots.
In Las Vegas, Buffalo got started with a touchdown pass, while holding Las Vegas to a field goal. In the second, the teams did the exact same thing, then reversed the same things (Buffalo TD, Vegas FG, Buffalo FG, Vegas TD). Vegas trailed 17-13 at the break. In the third, Vegas got within one on another field goal, but in the fourth, Buffalo pulled away with a pair of scores, however, the Raiders got one back, and lost to the Bills, 30-23.
In San Francisco, even though the Eagles could not stop George Kittle (183 yards), they kept themselves in the game. In the first, the teams traded touchdowns, with the Eagles holding an 8-7 lead after one that would hold at the break (no scores happened in the second). In the third, Kittle got into the end zone on a five yard pass, then the Eagles answered with a field goal, to trail 14-11 after three. With just under six minutes left, the Eagles took back the lead on a touchdown pass, then on the first play after kickoff, the Eagles D got one into the end zone, but San Francisco tried to come back, getting a touchdown just before the two minute warning. It wouldn't be enough, as the 49ers lost a tough one at home to the Eagles, 25-20.
And finally, in Green Bay, it was the Aaron Rodgers to Robert Tonyan show. In the first, however, it was Aaron to Aaron Jones, giving the Pack a 7-0 lead. In the second, Atlanta answered with a field goal, then the Rodgers-Tonyan show hit...two scores in the last 2˝ minutes to take a 20-3 lead into the break (Mason Crosby missed the first PAT). In the third, the teams only traded scores, so Green Bay still lead by 18 going into the fourth. In that fourth quarter, Todd Gurley rumbled in for a score, then Crosby got his mojo back, hitting from 48, and the Packers are 4-0 with a drubbing of the Falcons, 30-16.
We'll see how the comp organizer does against his former home team...he's 2-1 after he forgot to tip. He's 1-2 picking his new "home" team, after he forgot to tip. LeoDaVinci is 2-2, after he wasn't anticipating a loss, even with Garoppolo out. Dizart is 3-1 this year, and probably bittersweet, since he picked them and they lost.
Just a reminder: if you only pick one underdog, you are ineligible for bonus points, and I know exactly how many are picked.
Any inactive tippers who tip and are below 2nd last, their score will jump to 2nd last, however, if they are above 2nd last, they will not lose points to fall to 2nd last (or the lowest active tipper)
Until next week, everyone, score a touchdown! (...and kick a P.A.T. too!) |

As I've had other things going on, I'll update both weeks on Wednesday when I'll have ample time to devote to results. Thanks for everyone's patience!
