US Open 2020Say it softly, but major sports are returning! The US Open tennis tournament kicks off in a bio-bubble in New York from Monday, August 31. BOTH defending champions, Bianca Andreescu and Rafael Nadal are among a bunch of top players NOT playing this year, but it's still a Grand Slam and there will be lots to play for. N-Bomb (in women's section) and Fifiona81 (in men's) are our defending champions here from the 2019 US Open, while ozzz2002 and toocool4u won this year's only Slam titles at the Australian Open, a century ago... Hoping to see a HUGE turnout as we finally start returning to more and more sports.... - Naomi Osaka is proving to be a durable Grand Slam champion. Bucking the trend of recent one-off winners, she's now won her 3rd slam title (US Open 2018, Australian Open 2019 and now) and is also 3-0 in slam finals...clearly no final nerves there....Victoria Azarenka has lost her 3rd US Open finals (she lost 2012 and 2013 finals to Serena Williams), but she's had a great run the last 3 weeks and rises up the world rankings.
- Speaking of Serena Williams, her quest for a record equalling 24th slam title continues...she's lost the last 2 finals here and now her quest ended in the semis. will she ever get there? Of the rest of the tournament, Jennifer Brady had a fantastic run all the way till the semis, Tsevatana Pironkova marked her return to competitive tennis after motherhood by progressing till the quarters (first time in Open era that 3 mothers were making it to the quarterfinals), while Shelby Rogers provided the other Cinderella run of the tournament.
- N-Bomb was a very deserving winner of our title here after picking 6 of the 8 quarterfinalists (he only missed Pironkova and Rogers). He comfortably defends his title from last year.
- ozzz2002 gave a tough fight, and had 4 of the 8 quarterfinalists (he was the only other person here to pick Brady and Mertens) and takes a very well-deserved silver medal for his efforts. George95 takes the bronze medal after picking Azarenka to make it till the semis.
- After the podium there's daylight and then srini701. Then again a huge gap before the rest of the field bunched together.
- Dizart takes the spoon. Let's see what's in store for each of us on the men's side next

- For the first time since US Open 2014, we have a new first time slam winner in men's tennis...Dominic Thiem is the new king, and here's hoping he's not a one-off winner like the last one (Marin Cilic)...to be fair, Thiem had played a couple of French Open finals and an Australian Open final earlier this year and so looks like he's going to last...It was the first slam final for the other finalist, Alexander Zverev, but he's been steadily rising and improving over the last couple of years too, so maybe we are finally seeing a new chapter being written in men's tennis...
- For the first time in the US Open since 1949 and the first time in the Open era, the finals was won by a person coming back from 2 sets down....and the first time that the final set went to a tie-break too...hmmm...sad for Zverev? but Zverev himself came back from 2 sets down in the semis to reach the finals in the first place, so guess it all evens out in the end...
- Of the rest, well, the shocking exit of Djokovic for accidentally hitting a lineswoman full on the throat with a ball, certainly knocked the stuffing out of us here and the tournament....Pable Carreno Busta had a drem run till the semis and on the whole, the youngsters did finally make a good impression during the tournament.
- LeoDaVinci not only made a good impression, he almost picked the card here for a very, very impressive win...he only missed the run of Busta and Coric in his picks. So with 12 correct picks out of 15, he swept everything before him for a superb win... Well done, Leo!
- Fifiona81 and gtho4 round out the podium a hundred miles behind Leo (this is like the marathon winner finishing in 2:10, and the next two guys and the rest finishing at 2:45
) - After an impressive win in the women's section, N-Bomb decided to let the others take the spotlight for a change, and slides to the spoon position.
