I first got a cold on August 12 of this year and it last for a week! On August 30th, I'm cough and got a sore throat again but without the runny nose! what is the best fast remedy for a cold like this? I'm taking cough drops right now, they make me feel better but it takes forever to heal my sore throat and coughing. HELP ME!

With it being ongoing like that, it sounds to me like it could be allergies or sinus. That is just a guess, since I go through it every year from mid August through the end of October, and again every spring.

There really isn't much you can do for a cold, except let it run it's course, but there are medications to relieve the misery. Also, drinking hot tea helps soothe a sore throat.

I know it is not allergies because I don't get them usually. I guess it should run its course to see what happens, beside I have a doctors appointment on the 4th and I'll ask them what I can do.

Allergies can suddenly become apparent even though you have never had them before. You say you are getting yourself check out and that is good. Perhaps you have some recurring infection that isn't resolving itself and you require antibiotics. That could help, if they are necessary, but ONLY if they are necessary.

Sounds as though the use of the air conditioner might have triggered it. That does it for me. I'm probably allergic to the stuff inside it.

First, I really hope you feel better. I know having a cold is icky, and I wish you the best.

I tried to find some info from past threads on the subject, in case they have any good hints for you. Here's one of them for you to look at. See if it helps.

I had never in my life had allergies. Then we moved 12 years ago and it has completely changed my life. I kept saying for two years "I don't have allergies!" However, my doctor informed me that I live an area that has the most allergists per capita in the US. He also told me (get this!) the older one gets, the more things we become allergic to. Oh ugh!

Anyway, sure hope yours is just a cold and nothing worse, and that you get to feeling much better soon.

You should try a sage (and mint) extract with honey.

Buy sage and mint (preferably fresh - plant and all). Cut off some leaves and put them in a mug. Add boiling water and leave it for five minutes. Wring out the leaves and remove them. Add honey. If it's too much trouble, buy sage and mint extract or tea. For me it works every time.

June.....I am guessing that you now live in the midwest somewhere. Probably near the Ohio River Valley. Just a guess, because we have it BAD here. I live in one of the worst areas in the US to live for allergies.

I was just about to give you my favorite recipe for colds which involves copious quantities of rum. It doesn't cure a cold but makes it much more bearable. But, since you are over the cold and I don't know if you are over 21 I'll hold the recipe in abeyance.

Sorry! I'm not 21 and you still can give the recipe to other people who suffer the some problem.
