I had a question in the GC today (Impossible set) where the II says "If you been paying attention, you will realise that all the other names have already featured in this quiz." I have no reason to doubt the answer but since I was playing in a mixed game, not the quiz where the other names might have been, this frustrated me. It made it sound like the author is taunting people who didn't get it right.

I also had one in the same set where the II says "This was a freebie." I know that current guidelines are to give real information rather than that type of statement, but the original quiz was from 2003.

Are these things where a correction notice would be appropriate? Or should correction notices only be for actual errors?

When the issue is due to it coming up in a timed game, I try to make that point, and say that it may well work in the original quiz. Authors hate getting correction notes, and since they can only edit the original quiz, feel frustrated when the problem arises from the question being removed from its context. Editors, however, can then tick a box to remove the question from timed games, without having any impact on the original quiz.

Corrections sent. I started my note with "For an editor", but both authors have not been on the site for over 10 years.

Thanks!
