I have noticed that a member of my team has posted on the "Teams Looking For Members" section with the subject "'Smart Minds' for players who enjoy challenges and like playing quizzes" but with the name of my team, as if he or she is recruiting for the team. But he/she is not the team leader, I am.

I sent a PM to the player concerned but have not received a response, and he/she still shows as being a member of my team.

I am not very happy about this but do not know what to do. Can I just remove the person from the team and if so, how do I go about it please?

Thanks.

You can remove a team member here.

Click on team at top of home page.

Then click on configure at the bottom of that drop down list, this will take you to a page with everything as a team capita in you can do including it removing a member.

Here is a link to that page

https://www.funtrivia.com/friends.cfm

Hope that helps.

Thank you - I have never had any reason to want to remove a member of my team before but in this case, especially as the member concerned either did not see the notice to say they had mail or just ignored me, I was not happy with the situation.

Thank you again.

I didn't think it was possible for anyone other than a team leader to post on the team recruiting board.

Probably not ideal if they can.

He/she definitely did, which is why I was not happy. The post is still there - posted on 21 July - but as I have now removed that person from my team, my teams name has been removed.

I also thought that only team leaders could post there so when I saw my teams name at the side I was rather shocked. Possibly the person wanted to start their own team but if that was the case why was the name of my team both in the message, with a "click here to join" box, and with my teams name under the list of teams? As I say, those have now gone but the post itself is still there.

As you say, it is not ideal if anyone other than a team leader posts on that board - if that person wanted to start their own team they should not have put it under the name of my team. I like my team - there are not that many regulars but that is what the team is for and why I called it what I did. We are not a competitive team, we play when we can and when we want, just to have fun.

After all, that is what FunTrivia is all about, having fun. And that is why I like it so much.

I've seen cases of team members taking over a team where the leader has not been active for awhile but not in a situation like yours.

Glad you have it resolved at least. smile

It is more likely the person posted a recruiting notice for the team they were leading. But sometime between the recruiting post and now, they disbanded their old team and joined Iva9Brain's team. The recruiting post was still there and showed their current team.

The person concerned was not leading another team and was definitely a member of my team at the time, having joined it before posting on that board. And s/he was showing as recruiting for my team as it said "click here to join" [or whatever the wording is] and the name of my team. It is immaterial now though as s/he has not been online for nearly a month and since removing from my team our name no longer shows.

It just disturbed me slightly and I am very grateful to pmarney for their help. smile

This is ridiculous. That person only joined my team yesterday although he registered with FT on July 06 2015 but has yet to play on the team.

What on earth do I do now? It is my team. I started it. I named it. And I am the team leader.

If people want to join us then they are very welcome, but how can a team member recruit for the team - especially this one who has only just joined us. I see that the recruiting person has now had the post deleted but now another one?

Do I just kick him/her off the team? But what is to stop anyone else from doing the same - not that any of our regular members would so such a thing.

I just do not know what to think, let alone what to do. Surely only team leaders are supposed to be able to post on that board and recruit for the team?

Thank you for telling me, Barbarini - I probably would not have noticed it for a while.

I have no explanation for it, Iva9Brain, but if he were on my team, he'd be a goner.

I did send a polite note and was going to wait until the morning to see if I received a reply, but I have now decided not to wait and removed him/her from my team.

I am very grateful that this latest one was pointed out to me, and would ask that if anyone notices a recruitment post for my team from anyone but me, they please send me a message to tell me - I rarely post recruiting for new members so do not look at that board very often.

Close your team. That way, anyone who wants to join will send a note and you can have a discussion before they join, about what kind of team you are and what the expectations are.

Thank you for the suggestion agony but it would defeat the object of why I started the team in the first place. It is open to anybody who just wants to play for fun, with no pressure and no expectations.

I am still rather concerned though that just anyone can post on the recruiting board as I was under the impression that only team leaders could post on that board.

Since you removed the member and the message is gone, I can't look at it. It is very much possible for a member to briefly assume leadership of a one-person team, if they did it before joining yours. It would have been helpful to be able to see the text, to assess whether they were actually advertising your team or something completely different. Unfortunately we do not have exact timestamps for joins or leaves.

I would not jump to the conclusion that "anyone can post on the recruiting board" without knowing the details. There may be other possible explanations, but with the evidence gone, there's no way to say or even check.

Of course you could just ask any other team member of yours to try and see if they can post (ideally with your text just in case it's successful).

Both the people concerned were members of my team, the first one had joined the team a few weeks before posting and the second one posted on the day s/he joined the team but after having joined it.

I did remove both members from my team but did not remove the messages on the recruiting board as I would have been unable to do that. However, Barbarina told me [message #1272655] about the second post therefore it definitely was there and was recruiting for my team.

I took the messages down, Wes, because they were obviously the source of stress. They were both quite simple. The second one had the title "Whoot, Whoot!" and the message just said "Join, it's fun!" (or words to that effect). I don't remember the other one but it was similar (without the whoots). I know the second message didn't specify the name of the team and I don't think the first one did either.

Nothing I can look at then. It's pretty impossible to look at a possible bug if the evidence is gone.

It'd be best if someone without any special privileges (i.e. not a team leader, admin or editor and ideally not even a Gold Member) tried to make a recruiting post. That way, we'd know if there's a significant security problem.

The team name appeared in the links, which must be automatically generated by the server as there's nowhere for anyone posting on that board to add the team name.

I agree it would be good to conduct a test and have sent a note to one of the few non-GM Llamas asking him to try to post a test message. Let's see if the system will allow it. And if I get inundated by wannabe Llamas I'll only have myself to blame. grin

The team name is automatic and reflects the poster's current team. That's how we've had team ads by non-leaders appear in the past - the player had their own team, advertised it, then disbanded and joined something else, resulting in a usually totally mismatched ad for their then current team.

So if someone started Cat Haters Inc., posted an anti-feline tirade including recipes as their recruiting message and then suddenly got enlightened and joined the Cat People instead, we would then have a team ad endorsing cat steak :P

That could not possibly have happened the first time it occurred as the person had already been a member of my team for a few weeks before posting the recruitment message. They did not have their own team before joining mine as they had only just joined FT.

Anyone who is not a team leader can't post. The system comes back with this error message:

Quote:
Team leaders can post a FunTrivia Classified Ad below to invite new players to join their teams. A team leader may post here once per month.

Only the owner of this team can post a recruitment message.

I am finding this thread very interesting! Our team could do with recruiting a few speed demons. Our leader is far too busy to post recruitment ads. I investigated Join my Group, and saw the above quote, so obviously did not try to post. If this loophole exists, after permission from the leader, I could post an ad once a month. Obviously, however, it would be much better if the loophole was firmly closed to spare Team Leaders live Iva9Brain hassle from more unscrupulous (or over enthusiastic - both can be a menace!) people.

A possible work-around for your team would be to draft a message and when it is ready to post, send it to the team leader who could then just copy and paste it into the recruiting slot.

I would not have started this thread in the first place if I had not seen the first recruitment from a member of my team - and in message #1272655 Barbarini pointed out the second one "Looks like you have another team member recruiting for you, Iva9Brain..."

So it did happen - twice - and both showed the name of my team. I am not imagining it and I am sure that Barbarini did not imagine it either.
