Victoria Beckham has given birth to a healthy son, 7lb 4oz, a brother to Brooklyn. David and Victoria have named him Romeo.

Read about it here

It's certainly not a name in everyday use in the UK but, nevertheless, congratulations to them all

You have to feel sorry for the poor lad - Brooklyn was bad enough. Then there's a mum and dad that are the up-to-date version of Howard and Hilda from Ever Decreasing Circles. Never mind, with all that money they'll be able to afford counselling for the little mite!!

Is it just me, but I think Brooklyn is a good name? Having seen the little boy quite often at Old Trafford I think it really suits him and sounds really nice. Not as sure about Romeo, but it could grow on me!

You can just imagine the other kids when they're playing games like 'hide and seek'. "Romeo, Romeo where for art thou, Romeo?"

Except that "wherefore" actually means something along the lines of why!!!!

Have you heard the one about him being named Romeo because he was concieved in the back of David's Alpha Romeo???

At least he didn't have a Jaguar but Bentley wouldn't be bad.

Romeo Beckham was due to play his first game for Man Utd at Old Trafford and he asked his dad, "What number shirt should I wear?".

David thought for a while and then replied.............

"Wear 4 out there Romeo"

I'm absolutely gobsmacked that so much fuss has been made over this name (for those not in the UK - it made most of the front pages).

Surely it's not that unusual? It hardly rates up there with Moon Unit or Fifi Trixiebell.

Do you know what the most popular boy's name in the UK is at the moment?

Jack!!

No offence to anyone who's called their child Jack but thank goodness for parents like the Beckhams is all I can say.

I just thought of a worse car name, what if they'd been driving or procreating in a BMW?

Well I suppose that Madonna's kids' names Lourdes and Rocco got a lot of attention in the media too. At least they are bonafide names though.

I don't suppose he's had enough time in the world to meet anyone called Julie yet.

Folllowing through Heather's reasoning, if they had a Rover it would be even worse.

Ah perhaps this is a Brit thing, Rover is a common name for a dog.

It is for us too, except I'd prefer Rover to Vauxhall or BM!

Hey, compared to some of the strange names I've run across, there's nothing wrong with either Romeo or Brooklyn. I had an uncle named Cleophus, and afriend had one named Theodore---but they promounced it "Thee-odor"!

What's in a name? By the time he's 7 or 8 he will have a nickname and that will change as he grows up - why is it David and not Dave, why Victoria and not Vicky. The worst that the poor babe could endure is being called Julie.
My son has a friend whose first name is Christian - his nickname is Jewish! My son was nicknamed Beefy he's now known as District (from the soccer league he played in) the real name really doesn't matter. I just hope that both Brooklyn and Romeo are left alone by the press to live their own lives and looking into the future, in 20 years time both of their parents will be into either retirement or totally new careers and the only pressure on them will be if they have inherited the talents of their parents in either the stage or sports.

Well, when Romeo is old enough, he can change his name to whatever he wants. :
