Was wondering if anyone can share or point me to a post that explains a bit more how the Division algorithm works to place people in divisions for the hourly games.

What struck me as odd - I've been bouncing between Div 2 & 3 lately in the harder hourly game, but this past hour I was in Division 3, won my set, and placed 3rd overall for the hour. Now I go in and see I've dropped to Division 2. I know it's a calculation "over time", but how could I have possibly dropped based on that latest performance? I scored 882 last hour, is it possible that I had a higher score in the mix for the calculation that fell off?

Don't get me wrong - not complaining here at all, there's way more important things to fret over. Just wondering. Thanks!

As far as I know, the algorithm not only takes into account your average performance, but also the expected opponent strength during an hour. If you play in an hour where more highly ranked players are expected to take part (from past data), you might be sent lower if you're on the cusp.

And being relegated is actually a bonus in a way - your competition is not as strong!

Yes, this exactly.

That makes sense; I didn't realize expected opponent strength could be measured. Thanks for clarifying!
