Looks like you got some good luck here - due to the category overlap, you'll have two thirds of your medium solved when you do the hard. It's called random!

I'm not sure I really understand your reply, Wes, but if it means I'm lucky, I'll settle for that.

Have just switched my difficult challenge, as I was getting nowhere with Crystal Ball, and was given:

"Dominate the global challenge! Collect at least 13958 points playing Global Challenge games today."

Which is an impossible challenge since GC has not started yet.

Can I have another challenge please?

I have a question about the Expert Twin Daily Challenge. Apologies if this is answered elsewhere, but I don't have time to look through all the posts.

Yesterday, I was assigned the Twin Challenge against another player. I scored well on a particular category shortly after the topic changed. When I checked back later in the day, it was obvious that my opponent had played that category twice within the same hour.

It appears that on his first attempt he got 9 out of 10, as his score was in the 1300s, although obviously I have no idea which question he got wrong. He subsequently played the same game again, and presumably scored 10 out of 10, as his score now beat mine.

How can this possibly be fair? I'm not blaming the individual player, because I understand that he was simply taking advantage of the situation. It's something that I wasn't even aware of, although I've been a member of Funtrivia for many years.

Any explanation from the administrator/editors would be much appreciated.

Thank you.

The answer is the weekly Expert Mulligan perk. It's pretty useful in that challenge because you can try your strongest category twice.

it's also worth remembering that your opponent is unlikely to have seen exactly the same set of questions. I use the Mulligan myself on occasions and usually find only a couple of questions repeat, especially on the more popular topics, like Alphabetics. I'm as likely to score worse on my second attempt than on my first as I am to improve it.

If you don't know where to find this, look at your profile tab and find the one that says 'level perks'.

When you use your Mulligan you don’t get the same set of questions you get a new set of questions. I have used this a few times on this challenge and it does help, but as I say questions never the same.

Thank you all for your helpful replies. I have now located the Expert Mulligan perk, of which I was previously unaware, and will certainly consider using it in the future. However, I also note that the questions are unlikely to be identical, which is also worth taking into account.

Thanks again.

One good strategy for the mulligan in this challenge is based on knowing you have it available as a backup:

When a category comes up that you think you should normally be able to ace (like chemistry or computers would be for me or a super-easy one such as spelling bee), you can play your first try just for maximum speed without thinking. If you succeed, you have an outstanding score that will probably win you the round. If you miss because you misread or misclicked, you can mulligan and play a bit more carefully the second time - your score won't be that absolute top result but since it's one of your best games, you should still be able to come up with a pretty fast 15.

I'm probably just missing something here...

I have the daily challenge to play a new quiz within 20 minutes.

"A new Television quiz added today: Theme Songs From US Sitcoms (1995-1999) (bernie73)" came online at 8:55

"Today 9:13 AM: PDAZ: 10/10"

I played the quiz at 9:13 and had 10/10 score. That's within 20 minutes, yes? Why didn't I get credit for that quiz?

I've just looked at the list of scores and the earliest one listed shows the quiz was played yesterday, 28 June 2021 at 6.54 p.m., which is more than 12 hours before you played it. I'm not sure what you saw to make you think it had only just come online, but it wasn't a new quiz.

I have been tricked before on this. There are two different notices that come up in the Buzz for quizzes put on line today. The one you saw is for a quiz that is new but not brand new - it says it was added today. The notification you want is more detailed and specifically states what editor put the quiz on line.

Quizz June 28
Look at the scores :
1)first score June 28 8h24 pm
2)your score pdaz June 29 9h 13 am 21th score.
Never à 21th score has won the defi in the 20 minutes.
No more than 5 players scores 9 or 10/10 in the 20 minutes.
Difference June 28 8h24 and your score June 29 9:13 am
=12h 49
You can't win the defi in the 20 minutes after 12h49.
Conclusion always check the scores.

Défi quizz in the 20 minutes
You look at the buzz page notifications
For me I don't look at the buzz page, but homepage new quizzes.
Conclusion look at homepage new quizzes every three minutes.
Every three minutes you refresh homepage and you don't miss
the start of a new quiz.

Well that's really strange. It was listed in the buzz as a new quiz:

"A new Television quiz added today: Theme Songs From US Sitcoms (1995-1999) (bernie73)"

I saw it at 9:10 am this morning in the buzz (it posted at 8:55 am), so if the quiz was added yesterday, why did the announcement say today?

Ah well, yes I see why I didn't get credit now!

I've noticed that a lot since Terry added the banner announcement to the front page. I'll often see a quiz stated to have been added 'today' when I know for sure it was the previous day, for example if it's one I edited.

As Phil said, you need to double check the exact wording and/or look at the times other players took the quiz.

That's one of my least favourite challenges. It seems no quizzes are added when I get it, or they're all Video Games ones, which comes to the same thing for me!

Thanks all -- needed that extra set of eyes to see the issue. And I'll pay more attention to when the quiz actually went online ;-)

I think that notification just means "in the past 24 hours". Its "day" doesn't end at midnight wink

I have been challenged to play a quiz by a player who has no current quizzes composed by them. This is annoying because the point I would gain would enable me to buy an extra challenge.
Could the algorithm please be amended to ensure that challenges requiring you to play a quiz by a particular author are only issued when that player has authored quizzes available to play?

I think it's unlikely the system would pick a player who has written no quizzes. It can, though, be difficult to find them. The box on the main page doesn't always work and may say that a particular player can't be found. A better method is to go to your own profile and type the name in there - top right where it says 'Look up player'. Even if, as sometimes happens, the player has left the site any quizzes they've written will be archived and found via that method.

Hi, My Difficult challenge today was to play a new quiz within 20 minutes after going online and get a perfect score or just one question wrong. I played the quiz 'The Colours of the Guilds of Ravnica' by qrayx at 3.59 a.m. and scored 10/10 but the challenge wasn't credited. The Buzz said the quiz had gone online at 3.55 a.m. so I had fulfilled the requirements. Please may I have the challenge credit for this? Thanks!
