What are your opinions about the one and only Slim Shady? Is he demented, strong, weak, brilliant, what? It's amazing how many people can think such diverse thoughts on one man!

Anyway, this is your place to voice your opinions on the white rapper. So do it!

I am undecided on this one. I used to think that he was awful and just completely dismissed him even though i had heard very little of his music.

When he brought out Without Me earlier this year I found it very funny and found that I really liked it (much to my surprise) and now i find that whether I like what he does or not I want to listen to the lyrics. Having recently listened again to Stan I think that it's a great song and very very sad.

This is from someone who is over 40, am I strange or what?

I enjoy Eminem. Although I don't agree with all of his lyrics, I think he is a lyrical genius in the way he makes the lyrics flow. He has developed his own style and has proven himself as a strong and talented artist.

Some of his personal antics are getting old. The chip on his shoulder--it has to go. Or atleast be tamed a bit. Once upon a time, it was mildly amusing, but he seems to really take some of this stuff seriously. For example, at the VMAs, was his response to Moby really necessary? Perhaps it is just his public persona, however in this area, his character--it is weak.

I'm going to end up contradicting myself on this post; you have been warned.

It was really terrible what Marshall did to Kim. He did not need to push her to the suicidal point. Also, the song 'Kill You' was totally unnecessary. He did not need to sing about raping his mother. If he needed to say it, he should have kept it to himself.

However, I do like Eminem. Most of the time. Stan and Cleanin' Out My Closet were heartfelt songs. And it's SO sweet how much he loves Hailie.

It's hard to explain myself. It's just that in some of his songs he comes off as... alright, and others as a complete jackass. He doesn't need to be that way.

This is from someone who thrives on 60's and 70's music.
I'm not a fan of Rap, per se, and very few of the acts who perform it have (to me) any redeeming qualities. OK, Shaggy's good (not strictly Rap though), and I didn't mind MC Hammer or Grandmaster Flash but, all in all, in the words of Curt Hennig, 'Rap Is Crap'.
However, Eminem is different. His lyrics, while rather radical at times, are intelligent and witty, and the music doesn't suffer. 'Without Me' and 'Stan' are brilliant.
I think the most telling comment on his ability was when he appeared on stage with Elton John. If Elton will perform with him, then you know he can't be bad.

Stan is the first time I heard him and realized that he was the one everyone was making such a commotion about...I was listening to the story and the lovely backup by Dido which for me, is probably why it is such a hit...and the kids told me who it was. It's a ballad...poignant, bittersweet...of its era.

I can see the attraction for young people. But I bet it's Dido's voice that does it for the guy on that one track.

I like Eminem. I don't like him enough to buy his cd's. He says what's on his mind, that's for sure. I don't agree with every word he says, he's homophobic and has issues with women. But, since I feel that music is good therapy, I'd rather have him writing about certain things than going out and doing them.

Sadly, I can see Mr. Mathers coming down with a case of "Lenny Bruce Syndrome" sometime soon. I think his music will turn into rants about how much people hate him ( I know, some already do.) He's done what Alice Cooper did in the 70's, he's created this violent, insane persona to voice the things Marshall Mathers wouldn't voice on his own. He obviously loves his daughter very much, so he can't be all bad.

Things I like about eminem: he's talented, intelligent, honest (if brutal).

Things I don't like: homophobia.

I saw the preview for the movie he's going to be in. Surprise, surprise it actually looks very good. I can't wait to see it. I'm sure when it comes out there will be some backlash. Artists need to be careful not to spread themselves too thin. I dunno, I think he's going to pull it off.

Although I don't like him enough to buy his CDs(like my parents would let me!) but I am glad that his music at least MEANS something! His song "Cleanin' Out My Closet" made me cry because of how much he says he loves his daughter. But also I think he needs to lighten up.It's almost as if he can have an opinion but no one else can without him freaking out about it on one of his songs.

Ok. So, I like eminem...that don't impress me much
you've got the sales but have you got the touch?
Don't get me wrong, I think you're alright
but that won't keep me warm....

and all of this while listening to Albita

I thought of a lot of socio-politco things to say and then realised (again while listening to Albita's "Solo Porquè Vivo) that there was, from my point of view, nothing to say. I listen to almost everything.

Still working on the Polka.

SillyLily, I agree with you 100%! He really needs to lighten up.... And get off the subject at how horrible his childhood was. And stop bashing poor Kim! I understand why she tried to commit suicide... that was a pretty... s***ty... thing to pull.
