Have you seen the A & E remake of Lathe of Heaven? If so, what did you think about it? I thought it was a terrible disappointment, but then I've read the book by Ursula K. LeGuin and seen the 1980 PBS made-for-TV masterpiece starring Bruce Davison.

I thought the actor playing George Orr looked like he was on Quaaludes, the background music was so loud you couldn't hear the actors talk, important scenes were missing (like the world "after April"), too much time was devoted to showing Dr. Haber's awkward and embarrassing hypnosis techniques, and the characters were without emotion.

Hi mandelbrotset,

I agreee with you. I was disappointed especially that they didn't really play up the "be careful what you wish for" aspects of the original movie. As it happens, my local PBS station replayed the 1980 original a few weeks before the new A & E version. Though clearly a low budget affair, I really enjoyed the movie. I would suggest checking it out if anyone gets a chance.
