Australian Open 2021
Novak Djokovic and Sofia Kenin will defend their titles on the courts when the Australian Open will hopefully start in Melbourne from Monday, 8 February, while ozzz2002 and toocool4u start in the hot seat here in our comp.
Please await the main draw links and post your entries before the start of the second round on Wednesday, 10 February (11 am Melbourne Time).
Naomi Osaka has NEVER lost a grand slam match once she reaches the quarterfinals...she's a perfect 4-0 and won her second Australian Open title quite comfortably, squashing yet again, Serena Williams' dreams of a record-tying 24th Slam title along the way. Ashleigh Barty's quest to become the first home grown champion at Melbourne since the late 1970s also continues, as she lost in the quarters this year, after a semifinal loss in 2020.
Jennifer Brady continued a fine American showing down under in recent years by storming to the finals. She's a potential Slam champion soon....Karolina Muchova, who shocked Barty in the quarters, Jessica Pegula and Su-Wei Hsieh were the surprise packages this year.
N-Bomb rode the Brady bandwagon all the way to the title in our comp....he also picked Muchova to reach the quarterfinals ....Brady had a couple of other picks here but only till the quarters...3 of us tied for the second spot, but a comfortable tie-break gets srini701 the silver medal. Fifiona81 and gtho4 tied on tie-break too, and it was only the number of correct picks that get Fifiona81 the bronze. Howie72 is not a happy bird right now....

The Australian Open finally happened, and without any major casualty or incident, much to the joy of the organizers, and we had our predictable champion at the end of it all. Novak Djokovic was a perfect 16-0 since entering the semifinals of the Australian Open in his entire career and he duly made it 18-0, even though one of our Kiwi friends here hoped the Djoker would lose in the finals...Daniil Medvedev was on a 20 match winning streak going into the finals, including 11 wins over top 10 players and 2 in a row over Djokovic, but he proved no match at all on the big day and was a shadow of himself....his time will come and he is surely a Grand Slam champion in the making, but not this year....
The biggest surprise of the Open was the free swinging qualifier Aslan Karatsev who swung his way all the way into the semifinals, the first qualifier to reach the semis of any slam in over 40 years in the Open Era! Grigor Dimitrov also reached the quarterfinals from the most tricky quarter of the draw. Other than these 2, most of us picked the rest of the lot.
N-Bomb made it a happy double for himself, and walked away with the gold with another comfortable margin. His pick of Tsitsipas to reach the semis was the clincher for him. gtho4 again tied for the next best score, this time with Dizart, and he again came away second best on the tie-break...but at least he got on to the podium here unlike the women's section.
The next Slam is the Roland Garros and it will hopefully take place....keep an eye out folks, and please do join here if it happens....
