Today a green banner with frequent updates (for instance trending topics, the top 3 in points today...) has appeared on all types of homepage. Is htere any way to opt out of this novelty?

It's an experiment I'm running... the idea is to surface the events of the day and let people know when new games are running, celebrate important achievements, announce new quizzes going online, etc.

The idea is to bring the freshness of the day to sight.

I suppose I could create a way for GMs to opt-out of seeing that banner if that was something desired.

Whilst I am able to appreciate that some members may find this banner a distraction, I personally find it's a welcome addition to the home page.

It achieves its intended aim, which is to highlight up to the minute activities on the site, and also gives us a more attractive image at our point of entry!

Thank you for the opt-out. I'm one of those who finds it distracting, but for those who like it, they can still see it. A good compromise.

I also found it distracting. These sort of new "features" should always have an opt-out IMO.

Noting that when I went to the page it showed the bar as Off (even though I could see it). I clicked to turn it on and then again to turn it off. After that it went away.

I for one am really enjoying this. It has reminded me of things that I nearly forgot, and it has prompted me to try things that I might have skipped that day. I like especially information about trending topics and teams in various leagues that are in the top 3.

Sine I nearly always always forget to hit the Buzz link, it's great to see the Buzz being brought to me.

It doesn't bother me at all - on the contrary, I find it a good addition to the homepage. However, we are all different, and if people who are bothered by the banner can hide it, so much the better.

Me too. Must've been my own fault the first time lol.

Did notice something that could use some fixing. Got a banner that said:

"Yesterday's Team vs Team game is over and has been scored. 0 players played yesterday. Today's game has started!"

And there's a link that takes you the page that states it's retired. Maybe this shouldn't be popping up at all?

Hmm it uses a cookie to remember that setting. Do you have cookies turned off in your browser?

I have kept the banners on myself. Personally I love the community feel of them, getting updates about new quizzes online, reminders of what games are just starting, etc. It brings a lively and lived-in feel to the site.

I have left the banner on, too. I also like to get the updates.

Terry, I got the banner again to remind people to play the non-existent Team v Team game again (as I reported earlier).

I loved it when a condensed version of the Buzz was on the home page (where the Ask a Question is now). Great to have it back in this form. Thanks T!

You get used to it very quickly. It's certainly useful for the 'play a new quiz within 20 minutes of it going online' challenge, not least as a reminder on days when I have been given that one.

Terry, I'm getting messages on my banner that are telling me I haven't completed such-and-such a challenge when, in fact, most of the ones that show up have been completed. Just thought you might want to give that a look and see why it's happening. Thanks!

Are those upgradeables you don't have at tier 7 yet? Those will show as incomplete also when you filter for "incomplete only" in the challenges list itself, because, well, you can still do better.

I got a note for the Daily Challenge Epic Green flag which I have three of and which is its own badge. Or perhaps it expects me to reach level 7 for all the Epic flags before it will stop notifying me?
