That explains it, I have my browser set to automatically delete cookies etc whenever the browser is closed. Would it be possible to include it in the Customize Homepage (https://www.funtrivia.com/templates/customize.cfm) settings instead of a cookie?

Thanks Terry. I've been keeping an eye out today but there have been very few headers which refer to challenges not being completed. I'll report back once I've gotten wind of a few more.

Well, you do not own Epic: Improvement but Epic: Improvement 3. It replaces the original one (it's one of the old pseudo-tiers...)

OK, so even though I have won Epic Improvement 1, 2 and 3, I will continue to get the message that I haven't won #1 & 2? Can you fix that?

It'll most likely be a different fix than then rest of them (or we might just entirely skip the epics on this list - they have a rather unique implementation and it's not like you can really work towards them except by grinding challenges and hoping).

Be on the lookout if it does happen again for any other challenges - that would indicate a different problem.

I had a message today telling me I hadn't completed the 20,000 Points challenge. That made me giggle a bit, but I'm mentioning it in case it helps sort out where the info is being taken from when it's wrong. It's the first time I've seen an incorrect message - the others have told me I haven't completed challenges I can't get, like the either/or ones.

If it ever taunts me with not having the Lucky Duck there may be trouble though!

Funny you should mention that. I once asked Wesley why I was showing the "challenge incomplete" text for "20,000 Points." I don't recall exactly how he explained it, but in effect, there are two "20,000 Points" badges -- seemingly identical, but they have different challenge IDs -- and different winner counts. One of them hasn't been actively awarded in very many years. I have that "old" copy -- and a checkmark next to it in the Tower, but with the "incomplete" challenge text. It's like simultaneously owning and not owning it!

Interesting info MrN. My version says I have completed the challenge. It would have been a long time ago, when badges were first introduced, I imagine. But maybe the coding for the banner is picking up the previous version ID.

History lesson for everyone's benefit: Way back when the site was younger and there were only about 30 badges, there were two "bonus" badges which you got for getting non-quiz points (from daily games, etc). Those points were called bonus points. There was a 20,000 and a 50,000 version of that and, similar to point Apprentice / Duke / Prince / King / God, it was a pseudo-upgrade, so you had only one or the other.

The concept got abandoned when bonus points became the main point source especially for free members, but since nixing the badge would cost people a level ("retired badges" was years away from becoming a thing), it got converted into a 20,000 points badge, ensuring anyone who owned either version would still own it. They however never got consolidated - it's still internally two awards. The version shown in the Tower is actually the one that's not being awarded any more (the bigger one). The actual award count on this badge including the invisible one is not 6629 but rather well over 70,000...

If anyone who got their copy later (or got it early but never got the big version) and is thus stuck with the incomplete text wants to see the complete version, click here...



Terry: If you wish to consolidate them, all ID #44 and all future awards should be changed to ID #45 and ID #44 should be removed from the system. (#45 is the publicly visible one in the Tower)

And here's a snapshot of the badge page from 2008 from prior to the introduction of the current level system which shows not only the two bonus badges but also the old quiz point levels. It was pretty easy to go to max level in a few days at the time!

Yeah, there are a bunch of old badge IDs from 15 years ago that are no longer used but that are confusing the "not yet complete" code. I've filtered some more out based on this thread.

Please post here if you get any more notices of badges not owned that you do own so I can filter out any remaining issues.

I'm not sure this is the place for this but players that won Who Am I Badges in April are not showing on their homepage with other badges won.

Looks like I can fix those now with a new admin option. You should have yours, will have to do the other 9.

Hello, I am still confused even after reading this. In the Amethyst Tower there is a badge called 20,000 points. The description Challenges page says I do not have this badge ("incomplete"). Yet, there is a checkmark next to the name, and furthermore when I go to my profile, I can see the badge in my profile.

So what you are saying is...... the badge in my profile is #45 while the badge in the Amethyst Tower is #44 ?

And the 70,000 is for which one, #44 or #45 ?
