Crystal Ball is the most boring game on Funtrivia. If it is supposed to be random guesses there shouldn’t be any strategy involved at all.
Please remove it from the Daily Challenges. I usually switch out on this challenge or I don’t attempt it at all.

I am a word-nerd, and actually enjoy the Crystal Ball. It can be frustrating at times, but the delight is seeing the nine green exclamation marks is great.

Hopefully, the powers that be leave it alone, or only make small changes.

As oz has said, for people who like words the satisfaction of the game is seeing the word Correct with all its exclamation marks, so much so that winning with my first, blind, guess is nowhere near so enjoyable. I don't use the on site dictionary (still haven't worked out which one it is, because I don't want to know) and my guesses are words I've tried before.

Explaining the attraction of the game to those who hate it is difficult. I hated it myself when I first started - eventually I got one win and stopped playing again. When I started playing more regularly, the wins started coming - words do repeat and there are days when intuition seems to come into play. You'll quite often see consecutive wins for the same player. Clearly, badgelets aren't the incentive to go on playing - if that were the case, everyone would stop after 25 wins, so I can't be alone in just playing for the enjoyment of winning.

Instead of trying to find a way of adding more rewards, I'm wondering if making it a non-competitive game, played just for for fun, might be the answer. Those of us who enjoy the game can go on doing so and others can join in or not with less pressure. I'd suggest removing it from the Daily Challenges, as already mentioned - this is a challenge that is hard even for regular players to achieve. My heart sinks a much as anyone else's when I see it. Remove, or drastically reduce, the points award and retire the existing badgelets, after due notice to give those close to getting to 25 a chance to reach the target. Maybe, even remove the winners' list so that only the individual player knows how many times they've won.

I'd still play, even with the only incentive being the thrill of winning. What do other regulars think?

I chatted Crystal Ball with Wesley for a bit, and after some philosophical discussions we have agreed that Crystal Ball will not receive any further development.

CB was added as sort of an interesting curiosity - a side-show of sorts - many years ago and was never intended to be a game that people played thousands of times.

We will keep it on the site because there are a small but loyal group of players that continue to use it, but we will not be adding features or badges to the game.

That's great, Terry smile

Have you given any thought to the above suggestions that it be removed from the Daily Challenges?

Fair enough. Thanks for considering it anyway.

One more thing though - could you please add the Crystal Pyramid to the list of badges available on the "View Game Details" page. My mistake for not including it in my original note in the first place. Many thanks!

Thanks Terry. There are hundreds of games here, if people don't like one then leave it to the many people who do. And a reminder, the odds of winning increase per stage so if you want to win hold back your guesses.

It's almost a disappointment to win on the blind guess. You don't get the nine green exclamation points.

I don't remember ever having won 3 times in 24 hours before, but I have now. This is the message that comes up. It needs a little editing. I wonder if those who have won 3/24 hr repeatedly haven't noticed this?

Congrats, Champ!
You have won 3 times of the past 24 winners. You have earned a break! No new guesses are allowed until you have no longer have 3 wins on the "last 24 winners" list, to give others a shot at victory!

Duel Crystal Ball. What's that game show...Pyramid? I don't know but like Knockout, separate people go up against each other by offering clues to a word; or be given clues by the game itself, and whoever guesses the word first wins (easy/medium/hard), goes on to the next level where they battle someone else etc., etc., and the casual players go up against the champions to become champions themselves.

Probably wouldn't work.

I've only gotten five words right. Typically, I just guess a word, and leave. I come back months later and see I won that one time. I've never won Crystal Ball (to my knowledge) by making multiple guesses.
