Here you have the ancient and very beautiful ruins of Tintern Abbey on the banks of the River Wye in the Welsh county of Monmouthshire.

And someone, somewhere and at some point in the past, thought it would be a great idea to surround the buildings with car parks, tacky tourist shops and bars and cafes.

What were they thinking about?
