I just played my daily game of Who Am I... The time was shown as a 5 digit number in red. Normally it takes me somewhere in the vicinity of 100-120 seconds. I didn't leave the game, just played straight through.

Results:
12. psnz 21 hard 164 Phoenix Rising 15 32767 +150 56 900

The time is the 32767 figure, although that wasn't what I saw at the end of the game.

Just wondering what's going on here?

You are not alone. One of my team members showed as having taken 11465 seconds to score 15/15 in the game "Who Am I" a couple of days ago. I have not checked the timings on all games played by my team members but three times this week alone timings have shown way above the usual times they take.

However, I have been assured that it cannot be a server fault. so maybe we have just been unlucky.

According to server logs this is what your browser did:

You loaded the "play" page at 4:47 AM FT Time. Never hit submit.

[21/Jul/2021:04:47:35 -0600] "GET /whoami/playtournament.cfm?cachebust=1626817894&playername=psnz HTTP/1.1" 200 4331 "-" "3193862%20103%2E8%2E17%2E7%20psnz" "Mozilla/5.0 (iPad; CPU OS 14_6 like Mac OS X) AppleWebKit/605.1.15 (KHTML, like Gecko) CriOS/91.0.4472.80 Mobile/15E148 Safari/604.1" 443

Returned to the game at 21:49 FT Time:

[21/Jul/2021:21:49:56 -0600] "GET /whoami/ HTTP/1.1" 200 11128 "https://www.funtrivia.com/" "3193862%20103%2E8%2E17%2E7%20psnz" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/91.0.4472.164 Safari/537.36" 443

Hit play a second time, but the clock is still running from 4:47:

[21/Jul/2021:21:50:13 -0600] "GET /whoami/playtournament.cfm?cachebust=1626904196&playername=psnz HTTP/1.1" 200 4331 "https://www.funtrivia.com/whoami/" "3193862%20103%2E8%2E17%2E7%20psnz" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/91.0.4472.164 Safari/537.36" 443

Submitted a minute later:

[21/Jul/2021:21:51:51 -0600] "POST /whoami/submitwhoami.cfm HTTP/1.1" 200 3100 "https://www.funtrivia.com/whoami/playtournament.cfm?cachebust=1626904196&playername=psnz" "3193862%20103%2E8%2E17%2E7%20psnz" "Mozilla/5.0 (Windows NT 10.0; Win64; x64) AppleWebKit/537.36 (KHTML, like Gecko) Chrome/91.0.4472.164 Safari/537.36" 443

It looks like the 4:47 "play" was a reload of your July 20th game. So you either had it open in another browser window or something, or hit back on the browser or something.

I think I may be able to work a check in there to try to detect whether a stale reload has been detected. But, in short, the game is working as designed.

Ok, I have added a check that will ignore play links that were generated over 20 minutes ago. So, if you go to a play link from yesterday now it will NOT start the timer.

Will it switch you to a different set of questions? If it gives you the same set of questions, it is possible for a less scrupulous player to check their set, look up the answers without submitting and then reopen it 20 minutes later and be able to get a perfect score in a great time.

I know I am stuck with the issue of being thrown off Duel frequently on my tablet, so generally play that on my computer. I was doing that yesterday evening, pressed 'Submit' with 10/10 and was thrown off the site. Took some time to get back onto FT. This happened twice, and resulted in two 900+ scores being trashed.

I had no issues with another US site, which was up on my computer at the same time - I was able to change screens and interact with that, even as I was unable to access FT.

This would have been between 2 and 3 am FT time - do you know if any activity was going on (maintenance, etc) at the time?

I'm not protesting, but would like to know if Australians should be avoiding a certain time slot to play Duel to minimise a negative experience? The problem may have nothing to do with that, but I do understand that testing and maintenance must frequently happen behind the scenes.

As an Australian, I know that 7pm in Melbourne right now (which is 3am FT time) is when maintenance occurs some evenings. But I get a message warning of the imminent shutdown a few minutes in advance, and cannot access the site at all during maintenance, which generally lasts 10-15 minutes.

Thanks, Terry

So it looks as if I inadvertently started the game then tried to play it a good while later. I have no recollection of this but it could just be a senior moment at this end.

Thanks heaps for your help and the fix you've devised. I really appreciate it.

Thanks Looney, but no message last night, and the site doesn't actually normally throw a person off during normal cleanup time. As I say, my internet didn't miss a beat, as I was on another USA site at the time, and was unable to reaccess FT for several minutes on both occasions.

No. You only see the questions if the timer starts. If it thinks you are trying to reload erroneously, it just shows you the "Go back and try again" message.
