| This year's FA Premier League tipping competition is the 22nd edition!
Manchester City start as the defending champions, having won their third title in the last four years. Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea will hope to gun them down. The promoted teams this season are Norwich, Watford and Brentford. The first two return right back to the top flight after just one season in the Championship. They replace Fulham, West Brom, and Sheffield United.
The defending titleholder here is Dizart. N-Bomb and srini701 rounded out the podium.
The rules are simple and same as always. A correct pick gets you a point, and an incorrect pick scores zero. Failure to lodge picks results in a default, being the wooden spoon score for that week. There's a bonus point for tippers who get a solo weekly win. Tiebreakers for medals are differential between weekly wins and wooden spoons, followed by most weekly wins and then most bonus points.
The season begins at the end of next week, on Saturday 14th August.

A very warm welcome to the 22nd Funtrivia tipping competition of the English Premier League (FAPL). 15 of us lined up at the starting blocks, the same as last season. 14 of us are back for another dose, while debutant andymuenz replaces dg_dave in the line-up. Welcome to the comp, Andy!
6 of the 14 returning players have won this comp in the 21 editions it has been run here so far. Sypher and N-Bomb (5 each) lead the pack, while gtho4 and paper_aero have won it twice each. Dizart and srini701 have won it once before. Dizart in fact is our defending champion here this season. This means there's a HUGE incentive for those 8 of us who have played this before, to try and get our names on the Hall of Fame honours list  Let's see how the season goes...N-Bomb takes an early lead with a solo win this round, while 6 of us start with spoons, barely a point behind the rest.
All 10 matches produced outright results, with 7 home teams starting with a win....Fans are back and with them comes the return of home advantage. Newly-promoted Brentford set the tone, with 17,000 jubilant supporters roaring them on to a famous 2-0 victory over Arsenal in their first-ever Premier League game. The champions Manchester City started on the wrong foot, losing away to Tottenham. Their 1-0 defeat was only the third time in Premier League history that the reigning champions have been beaten in their opening game of a campaign.
Manchester United blitzed Leeds at home, Liverpool started with a calm away win, while Chelsea started strongly at home too.....it promises to be an exciting season, especially once the transfer season closes and the world knows whether Harry Kane is staying at Tottenham or moving to Manchester City.... any Tottenham fans amidst us?

dg_dave returned to the comp (have to see when he will go AWOL again though  ) and we are a good 16 again...wwe84 went on a limb and picked Southampton to hold Manchester United, and it paid off. wwe84 takes sole honours this round, and the resultant bonus point sees him fly right up our ladder into second place...ozzz2002 takes the spoon and slips into the cellar.

The last clean sheet of this season in Europe's big 4 leagues vanished this weekend after Crystal Palace comprehensively beat Tottenham at home. The Premier league action resumed after a short International break and 3 teams are slowly beginning to pull away? Chelsea, Manchester City, and Liverpool all won, while Manchester United slumped to a big defeat at Leicester. Tottenham and Wolves won too, and are the only teams with no draws after 8 games. At the other end, Burnley, Newcastle and Norwich are all still searching for their first wins of the season.

Yes, that 7-0 scoreline is correct! Chelsea hammered poor Norwich City, who must be wishing they are back in the Championships....they have scored all of 2 goals in the Premier league so far in 9 games, while letting in 23! Elsewhere, Liverpool thrashed Manchester United 5-0, while Watford also went crazy at Everton, winning 5-2, a result only dg_dave managed to pick here! Liverpool is yet to lose this season, while Tottenham also continue their draw-less spree.
Sypher had a massive round here, and he joins paper_aero at the top, the 6th person to hold the top spot in our competition in 9 rounds...andymuenz continues to slide and takes another spoon this round.

Manchester City were shocked at home by Crystal Palace, while Liverpool escaped with a draw against Brighton, allowing Chelsea to go top of the table. There was a big win at Tottenham for Manchester United too, while Arsenal continue their recent upward surge with a win at Leicester City. There was a first win of the season for Burnley too this round.

It was another very crazy and unpredictable weekend in the Premier League. None of the bottom 3 teams in the standings lost, and in fact there was a first ever-win for Norwich City. Newcastle is the last remaining team searching for a win. Liverpool's 25 match unbeaten streak across all competitions ended with defeat to West Ham, while Tottenham drew their first game of the season, filling 2 more blanks in the ladder. Chelsea could only draw with Burnley, while Manchester City deepened the woes of their city rivals with a comprehensive win. West Ham leapfrogged Liverpool into the 3rd place, while Arsenal moved a step closer to the top 4 with another win.
An unpredictable round deserves an unpredictable winner here too, and wwe84 duly takes a second sole win here. andymuenz and toocool4u again swap places in the cellar.
