US Open 2021The world's best male player is looking for a Grand Slam and New York will be the final stop. Can anyone stop him? Defending champion Dominic Thiem is not playing, and Roger Federer is also out....Will Novak Djokovic be lifting his 4th Grand Slam trophy of 2021 by September 12? Naomi Osaka will be defending her title in the women's section, which has a whopping 16 grand slam champions in the line-up. These days it's a lottery in the women's section anyway N-Bomb and LeoDaVinci will try to defend their titles in our comp here as the US Open starts Monday, August 30. Sign up here if you'd like to take a crack at them....the tipping threads will be open when the draws are announced later this week. Link to Draws:

- She came, she saw, she conquered! What a debut it turned out to be for the 18-year old Emma Raducanu at this year's historic US Open! Playing just her second grand slam event (she got a wildcard for Wimbledon where she reached the fourth round before retiring), the 150th ranked player in the world became the first qualifier in the history of the game, male or female, to reach a major final, and win a major title.
- Emma Raducanu became the first British woman to win a singles major since Virginia Wade at the 1977 Wimbledon Championships. At No. 150 in the world, Raducanu became the lowest ranked player to win a major since an unranked Kim Clijsters won the 2009 US Open. Raducanu is also the youngest major champion since Maria Sharapova at the 2004 Wimbledon Championships. This year's US Open final is the first all-teenage major final since Serena Williams defeated Martina Hingis at the 1999 US Open and the first women's singles major final in the Open Era to feature two unseeded players.
- There's more to come. Raducanu won the title without dropping a set during the entire tournament, including her three qualification matches (10 matches without even facing a tie-breaker); This was Raducanu's first WTA singles title, making her the fourth woman in the Open Era and the first woman since Iga Świątek at the 2020 French Open to win a major tournament as their maiden singles title.
- Spare a thought for her beaten finalist, the just-turned 19 year old Leylah Fernandez of Canada. She beat 4 players ranked in the top 3 in the world (Round 3-Naomi Osaka, Round 4-Angelique Kerber, QF-Elina Svitolina, SF-Aryna Sabalenka) in a row to reach the finals. Her time to shine will surely come.
- And what of our own tournament here? The carnage wrecked by Raducanu and Fernandez ensured we have one of our lowest scoring tournaments ever. Howie72 still shone through, picking the rest of the 6 quarter-finalists. he is a most-deserving winner of our comp by a wide margin.
- 3 players tied for second place. srini701 takes the silver medal and N-Bomb the bronze medal over an unlucky George95. LeoDaVinci takes a golden spoon this year.

- I was so upset with Novak Djokovic's loss in the finals that I forgot I had to post these results
I'm not his greatest fan, but he's always been my second best player, and after the year he's had, I'm sure 90% of the world was sure he would complete a Calendar Slam (the rest 10% consists of "crazy" Kiwis, headlined by Howie72 ) - 27 wins in Grand Slam matches in 2021, and Djokovic was just one win away from becoming only the 3rd man (after Don Budge in 1938, and Rod Laver in 1962 and 1969) and the 6th person overall (Maureen Connolly, Margaret Court and Steffi Graf being the others) to win a calendar Slam. Federer won 3 slams in a year, and so did Nadal and Djokovic himself before this, but this was the closest any man got to completing it in the last 52 years.
- Daniil Medvedev played spoilsport in spectacular fashion, hammering Djokovic in straight sets, leaving the great man weeping during the changeover before the final game. This is Medvedev's first Grand Slam title, in his 3rd finals (he had lost in 2019 to Nadal, and this year's Australian Open finals to Djokovic). He's the 3rd Russian man after Yevgeny Kafelnikov and Marat Safin to win a slam title. Plenty more to come, if he can sustain this game a few more years...
- The script also went mostly as per plan, with 4 of the top 8 seeds making it to the last 8, and so, it was the unexpected that made all the difference in our comp here. Obviously none of us picked the 3 unseeded players, and it was the 12th seeded Felix Auger-Alissime who decided all the medals.
- George95 picked the entire semis line-up correctly, and he had the 6th seed Berrettini in his line-up too, and he walks away a deserving winner of our comp. And while Howie72 actually had the audacity to Pick Medvedev to win it all, he didn't fancy Zverev's chances, and so settles for the silver. After winning the women's side of the comp, he should be the most happy guy right now amongst us all
LeoDaVinci takes the bronze to make up a little for the golden egg on the distaff side. - George95 and Howie72 just flipped the Roland Garros results around, after N-Bomb did a double in Australian Open and Dizart did likewise in Wimbledon. So basically it was just these 4 guys having fun this whole year in our comps here
Let's see what 2022 has in store for them...and the rest of us.
