A Northern Pintail duck,
Anas acuta, photographed this weekend at the Slimbridge Wetland Centre, Gloucestershire... What a handsome fellow he is!
Slimbridge is a fascinating place to visit at this time of the year with many hundreds of migratory birds passing through and stopping off to rest and refuel. While I was there the first Bewick's Swan arrived (a three year old male known at the centre as 'Allington' - photo to follow) and I managed to see my first ever Water Rail; sadly I missed taking an image of it.
Just waiting for first reports of the rare (in the UK) Smew.
