Each pair of words has a missing word between them that acts as a link to both (e.g. FRONT -DOOR- MAT).
The initial letters of the six answers(reading downwards) will spell out the surname of a famous scientist.

1. HOT - - - - PAPER

2. KNIFE - - - - WAYS

3. DOWN - - - - FALL

4. LIGHT - - - - - STONE

5. FRENCH - - - - DAY

6.BUTTON - - - - STUD

Hope you all enjoy this ,please answer one at a time
Thanks

- - - indicates the number of letters for each word.

I don 't know what the rest of the missing links are right now ... but I do know that the missing person (final answer) whose surname is formed by the initial letters is 'NEWTON" (I think the scientist is Sir Isaac Newton.) ... maybe that will help fill in the rest of the missing links.
