I think it's important to revisit old parts of the site every so often to see what can be done to make them more interesting / exciting.

As far as quiz playing goes, I was taking some quizzes earlier and felt like perhaps we can improve the experience a bit by adding some fun little additions.

One might be highlighting the name of the player who last scored perfectly on a quiz. When you submit it would say "Terry was the last player to score perfectly on this quiz, on Nov 13, 2021". Or something like that.

Does anyone else have other thoughts on how to make the quiz playing experience more interesting?

Better suggestions on other quizzes to play when you are done playing one?

Maybe an option that allows you to sort quizzes in a category from easiest to most difficult in the quiz list?

Any other ideas or thoughts on how to make things more interactive or give players a greater sense of accomplishment when they score well?

Just as an ease of navigation possibility it would be nice for an author to be able to link the quizzes in a series by providing the quiz ID and having the site automatically provide that follow through. “Did you like my quiz on episode 45? Well try episode 46 here.” Obviously far from necessity.

Totally. Great idea. Easy to do too. Will add.

Related but different: I can't remember, but are quiz lists built into the submit screen? So if you play a quiz in a quiz list does it list some of the others in that list?

If you play a quiz in a quiz list, it lets you know that it is part of a quiz list, and provides a link to the list. The problem I have found, though, is I can either click the link, or rate the quiz I'm playing. So, I end up rating, and then backspacing to get to the link for the list. It would be better if the quiz link list opened in a new tab.

When you finish the quiz the answer screen gives a list of all the lists that quiz is featured on.

What about suggesting quizzes on the same topic, or a related one (when available)? I know that sometimes a list of topics appears at the end of a quiz, but they are often unrelated, or only vaguely related. I am thinking of something along the lines of "If you liked this quiz, try this/these". However, I don't know how much work would be involved in implementing this.

I am going to redo the "rating" stuff entirely so it doesn't submit to another page.

20 years ago the technology didn't exist to do this, but now I can build the rating right into the page and it handles it in the background.

Then you can continue on with whatever quiz suggestions, etc are listed at the bottom.

I'm also thinking of adding an "ordered" element to quiz lists, so you can order quizzes in a specific way. Perfect for ordering quizzes in TV seasons, or quizzes that follow one another, etc.

This was the way it was originally; I thought it was intentionally changed.

This already exists in quiz lists. I think my concern here (if this is in relation to the earlier suggestion) is that there's a minimum threshold for quiz lists. If I only want to link two quizzes (ie. one to the other and back again) then the solution there isn't necessarily to have a quiz list; that seems like a recipe for clutter.

That said, I'm probably not the one to ask on something like this because most authors wouldn't be looking down the barrel of a massive 'connect the quizzes' project. lol

Yep, but having an option/toggle to sort from highest ranked to lowest won't affect that.
(I miss the old way of sorting)

Terry, can we have an option/toggle for Newest Quizzes to sort by date put online, newest to oldest. I need that for the quarterly numbers.
(the last set of stats were a bit of hit and miss as I had to manually go through and find them)

It's hard to keep content really current but I'd like to see a bigger focus on what new stuff is happening. Movies, TV, Sports, Video Games and Literature are particularly great topics to generate new stuff focused content continuously. I wanted to do something like a 'That's Movies: November 2021" quiz list with 5+ quizzes for example but never really have before.

So when I have been rating a quiz and then clicking on the quiz list link my rating didn't count? No bueno!

A thought, what about a meter which tells us how many quizzes we have completed on a quiz list from the quiz list main page. Every now and then I get surprised that I hav already completed more than half a quiz list and didn't realize it. I've thought about clicking on each one and making a list but seems like more work than I want to do. I could completed several quiz lists in the time it would take to go through all of them.

Had an idea, but it depends on how far back stats tracking goes back. I know there's loads of quizzes I played in the past before I had knowledge on the subject, like quizzes on bands or TV shows, likely because they were part of a challenge list or a quiz of the hour. What about an "improve scores" feature where you can play old quizzes after a certain amount of time and if you improve your old score you get the number of points per questions improved on, so from 5 last time to 10 this time you'd get 75 points. Could even be a badge to improve your score on 500 quizzes or something. But it obviously depends how long our scores on each individual quiz are tracked for.

I would personally like to have a kind of a "dilettante" feature on especially the pop culture topics. There are tens of thousands of quizzes on specific books / movies / TV series / bands / sports / video games that are really fan material. For someone who may have only a casual interest, most of these quizzes are more or less guesswork.

Would it be possible to auto-generate a summary quiz for these specialized areas (or possibly all subcategories even) that consists of all questions with a very high (85%+) correct rate, or if those wouldn't make 10, the 10 easiest questions?

It could be a great starting point and maybe, if one does better than expected, it encourages to explore. These should give reduced points from a normal quiz (since they're easier and you could redo the questions normally) - I'd suggest half, i.e. 8 points per question - but they should also count for the 24 Hours badgelets so players won't have to possibly do a hundred quizzes with only 2 right each and even risk locking themselves out in the process...

I'll probably get detention for these two suggestions , but hey I can take it.
1 . Dispense completely with the 'Crystal Ball'. It's past its best in my opinion, the same people who seem to know something I don't always win .
2 Dispense with the challenge that asks you to get full marks in a quiz in 28 seconds. My computer cant keep up that sort of speed, although I usually get 10 right. It seems it is one's computer and typing skills that are tested here.

different quizzes for the thé quiz of 100 questions.
It would be fun a quiz of 100 questions in timed time of course.

Crystal Ball is semi-retired. It has been removed from challenges and will no longer receive any updates, badges or additional tiers. It remains online for those who like it, everyone else can safely ignore that game (at after getting 25 wins, if you're a badge collector)

Hmmmmm that is the intent of the "Mixed Topic Quiz" that appears at the top of most category pages -- it attempts to curate easy stuff that has the widest appeal.

Are you suggesting something different?

I'm thinking of a regular quiz template curated this way with fixed questions (it keeps its content over the days as an autogenerated intro quiz) , not a timed game with random selections (that aren't actually that easy - several of those scientist questions had rates under 60%).

Also, these instant quizzes don't count towards their respective 24 hour games - just rechecked. It showed me 0 correct people questions in spite of 8/10 right.

When I tried the same for a movie that I had seen several times but not recently ("Home Alone"), the questions I got had five easy ones (80%+), three average (60-75%) and two that were tough even for fans (55% and 27% respectively), the latter being about identifying a bit actress who appeared in only one scene. My result was a not too encouraging 4/10.

The idea of these would be to really crystallize out super-easy questions to make playing an unfamiliar category more interesting and rewarding, also in the light of 24 hours badges. The "I wouldn't have a chance" factor in many topics is what discourages me most from quiz plays. A category like https://www.funtrivia.com/ql.cfm?cat=633 would be random guessing to me even with the ten easiest questions, but for many films, bands or books I have once had casual contact with, a "really easy" selection would make the difference between "don't bother" and "sure, I'll try" - also towards playing more 24h badgelets.

So are you suggesting editors select the questions for each category? Or have the system auto-generate one algorithmically based on play stats etc?

And would there be just one for "Seinfeld", or also one for "Seinfeld: Characters" and "Seinfeld: Season 2" ?

And can a player only play "Raiders of the Lost Ark for Idiots" quiz once?

I'd say autogenerate, doing it for all categories that have sufficient material (in that exact location - don't move down to pull questions) and it is treated like any other quiz - for points, you can play it just once, for challenge purposes every 60 days.

So in your Seinfeld example, the main category would have a quiz (it has 30+ entries), the seasons would mostly have one - 1, 8 and 9 are probably too thin - and characters would likely have one. The mixture difficult subcat would probably not get one because it just has too difficult questions even though the raw quiz count is high enough. It should all be algorithmic.

Ideally these autogenerates would combine photo and standard MC questions - match is obviously out of the question.

When playing a lot of quiz lists by the same author (Biggest Fan badge), after rating a quiz, you are not returned to that List, but rather to the player's profile page.

Not a biggie, but may as well add it to the Wishing Tree.
