Suppose you are a relatively new quiz writer and you want to brush up your skills writing the Interesting Information which goes properly at the end of each question.

From the home page, under "Sections", you go to "Trivia Questions." You've been around long enough to know that you are most likely to find the help you seek/need under the "Main Quiz Topic" captioned "General." O frabjous day! On the "General Page," you find two "Sub-Categories" both of which look potentially fruitful.

The first is captioned "Quiz Creation Guidelines Trivia Quizzes" and reports two quizzes available there. And when she got there, the cupboard was bare! Alas, there are none. Instead, the foot of this page invites you to look in one of several "Sub-Categories" which might be helpful. Hosanna! One of those is captioned "Interesting Information" which fills your nostrils with the scent of a successful hunt. Sadly, when you go to that page, it informs you that "There are no quizzes in this category at this time. Why not create one?"

With your head "bloody, but unbowed" you neither wince nor cry aloud. Instead, you return to the fork in the road which offered you 67 "Quizmaker Tune-Ups" in lieu of the two "Interesting Information" quizzes which weren't there. Going here leads to a page with many interesting sub-categories, almost all of them about writing specific sorts of quizzes -- entertainment, celebrities, hobbies, movies, and such -- or a link to go back to "Quiz Creation Guidelines" which you are now smart enough not to do. There is no sub-category here called "Interesting Information." There are, however, links to 67 quizzes, one or more of which might help you out.

You begin to scroll. Here is a quiz by cellar door from 2014 entitled "Interesting Info" and it is a good one. Here is a quiz by dg_dave from 2017 entitled "Interesting Information in Quizzes" and it is pretty good, too. Here is a quiz by FatherSteve from 2021 entitled "How Interesting is Your Information?" for which humility precludes evaluation.

Two questions come to mind. (1) Why are these three quizzes not listed under "Quiz Creation Guidelines Trivia Quizzes" under the sub-category "Interesting Information"? and (2) Why is there not a sub-category under "Quizmaker Tune-Ups" called "Interesting Information" under which these quizzes can be nestled.

Huzzah for all of the many desirable modifications of the trivia directory structure announced 13 November 2021! The announcement said "We have removed a lot of unnecessary sub-categories and streamlined the entire directory structure, with more to come." One might hope that, among the things included in "more to come," would be the resolution of this small concern.

(1) Why are these three quizzes not listed under "Quiz Creation Guidelines Trivia Quizzes" under the sub-category "Interesting Information"?

Because they are "Quizmaker Tune-Ups", not guidelines. The "Guidelines" sub-category is just text -- the actual guidelines. There are no quizzes in there. Perhaps slightly confusing.

(2) Why is there not a sub-category under "Quizmaker Tune-Ups" called "Interesting Information" under which these quizzes can be nestled.

As a general rule we only create sub-categories if there are an appreciable number of quizzes to go there. 3 is on the fence. Personally I like to see 5ish before I want to break out quizzes. It also depends how many are in the main category. There are enough quizzes in Tune-Ups now that we probably should create a few sub-cats. Maybe one for punctuation, grammar, etc.

On a related note, I will soon be adding a way for editors to list quizzes in more than one place as "Related quizzes". That would allow for cross-linking from places like the guidelines directories.
