Snow snow snow! We just had our first snowfall this year that cleared away my denial. Every year it gets cold and I believe snow won't come. I don't want to think about hats, mittens, scarves... Etc. I ignored the snow on Monday but Tuesday i had to run errands. I cleared the 2,3 inchs the snow off my car.

Do you know what happens when first, it snows, second it rains and third, it all freezes? It turns into a frozen cake two-three inchs thick. The first I'd experienced this, I hit it the frozen ice with my scrapper. It was surprisingly easy too. Hooray! I ran my errands to the grocery store, library and the pharmacy.

Afterwords, I was very happy to retreat into my warm apartment. I felt a sense of strength from the physical exertion/ battling the snow. Weathering the storm makes me feel good!

How are you coping with winter and/ or snow? Or is your region in summer? How is your weather?

We've been in a cold snap here. It's been going down to colder than minus 30 C at night, up to about -26C or so during the day. Which, OK, it's Edmonton in winter, what do you expect, but it's a little early for this, usually doesn't get this cold until about mid January. Not so bad on calm days but really pretty miserable when it's windy.

I used to live in Singapore, move there - it's not nearly as cold as Hong Kong! Although you might need to wear a cardigan indoors - they keep the aircon so low it gets quite chilly. grin

We are having remarkably mild weather for this time of year, today the high is expected to be 13C, the low 10C. It should off to single figures by next weekend.

We rarely get frost in Jersey, scraping the windows is extremely unusual.

Hi everyone! So good to see all you here.:-)))

Ren, I was going to say that's a cold snap- oh!! Celsius. Your weather sounds delightful but... contrary to my title I would miss the cold and snow. I was really protesting start of winter. ALSO, my sister in Florida would probably agree with needing a cardigan and socks. She"d tell it was cold under 60.

Agony- negative 30 is cold in C or F! A weather report reminded me of record breaking cold snap here in WI. Feb 1996, temp was -29.0 °F/ -33 °C. I remember riding the bus, wearing two or three pairs of slacks. You learn to adapt to the elements.

Flopsymopsy, Brrrrr to the thermostat and the cold inside. I think I would be finding that thermostat real quick. I know I know sometimes that's just not an option.

ozzz2002, I just looked at your weather/temps. A lot warmer than WI! I work during moving to Hong Kong call Mom Singapore, Canada or Australia... I think I'd choose Australia! For the temporal bone the beaches.

I read something about employment programs that allowed people (up to age 29) immigrate to Australia... cannot remember the full details. But, at 29, I moved to WI. I thought wait-- I could have move to Australia instead??

That says nothing about needing a job, money to fly to Australia and live on. So, yeah, WI was simpler.🙃

Then come scrape mine. Hahaa I'm pretty sure it still is covered with snow because it was snowing when I came home. I haven't looked out my back window my apartment. It might be cleared, if sun came out but... most likely not.

It's 21F here in Chicago, which is about -6C, and we had snow over the weekend, but I don't mind at all. I am a fall and winter girl, and I find the cold exhilarating, especially on a bright, sunny day like today.

Give me January over July any day!

Minus 25C here and snowing and blowing. I decided that everything I had to do today could be just as well done tomorrow, when I have to go out anyway. Spent the day reading and writing a quiz.

We got about 10" of that nasty white stuff here today...and I'm ready for spring (not summer, but spring).

My sympathies! The words nice, crisp and fresh should never be applied to the abomination that is snow.
In 1947, (I know, I am OLD) it snowed so deeply in Cambridge , that some men had to come and dig us out, as we couldn't open the doors. My mum read that if you ran in the snow in bare feet it would cure your chilblains, so guess who had to test it out. Didnt work.Nasty stuff.

And another horrible event. On my way to school, I was aged about 5 , the bus overturned and I am still having nightmares at the memory!

I was born in late November 1947 and we lived in Yorkshire. My mother said that I was taken out for 'walks' by a neighbour to toughen me up, in ten foot drifts. smile

Thank goodness snow, and indeed frosts, are uncommon here. Sadly that does mean that if there is any snow, or ice, then it is virtually a shutdown as many people have no idea how to drive in snow. Years ago I had no problem with driving but now that I am older I wouldn't chance it, mainly because of other drivers being idiots.

After a good solid three weeks of extremely cold weather, tempered by a short two day period of only very cold weather, we have having a break. Right now it is -7C (19F) and the forecast is for three or four days where we go above freezing!

So this is very exciting and would be welcome news except that we have gotten more snow than usual in the last month, so when the temps go above freezing it will be a real mess. Thawing during the day, freezing again at night, it'll be bad, but at least it won't physically hurt to go outside.

I've just been looking at the brown expanse which is my garden. I planted some bulbs in October and I wondered if they were showing above ground yet - but they weren't. However, to my amazement, a lot of seedlings are sprouting and my gaillardia plants are still in flower. In flower. After several nights below freezing. The British Isles are further north than Newfoundland and these plants come from Arizona!
