It's easy if you use a place like Geocities or Tripod which cater to people who have never made a website before and who don't know HTML.

Also, if you want to start out doing HTML and not doing the Geocities/Tripod editors, there are a LOT of great books that you can get at bookstores and libraries which can tell you how to write HTML pages easily.

Most ISP's will have a link from their homepage with step-by-step instructions, too.

I went for the lazy way of producing our web site from the start and chose a web editor that gives an interface showing how the page will look as it is constructed (known as a WYSIWYG editor).

However, this doesn't entirely dispense with needing to add certain elements to the page in html code. Even then there are places that let you cut and paste code that produces a desired effect on your page(s).

A knowledge of HTML comes as a result of WYSIWYG page building because it is necessary to look at the page's code to do things once in a while.

WYSIWYG editors are a way round having to know how to write HTML in order to produce web pages.

I think it is just a case of deciding what method of producing the page you are most comfortable with.

Many just prefer to just write the code but when I first started constructing our site the fact I could see the page building before my eyes was what attracted me to WYSIWYG editors.

WYSIWYG stands for: What You See Is What You Get.

The easiest way is to use software like Frontpage or dreamweaver - with these, you can be a novice and still get all those cool marquees and hover buttons. In Fact they
indirectly teach you a lot about HTML.
it's just like creating a presentation (wyciwyg)

And the best thing is you can work offline ( matters a lot when you are using dial-up) and upload it anytime.

Yes, although my favorite is Adobe PageMill. I believe they still offer trials of their software at http://www.adobe.com

I used to use Pagemill 3.0 but when I looked for an upgrade I found Adobe had discontinued it and started selling ‘Golive’ instead. I couldn't get used to that and so I ended up using Namo’s web editor.

If you want to see pages constructed using Namo WebEditor 4, go into my profile. There’s a link to our site there.
