With all the attention to match fixing in cricket in recent times, I would like to know what people's opinions are of what's been going on in Formula 1.
When a guy can slow down to deliberately let someone else win the race, I see it as the most blatant form of'match-fixing', yet the racers involved are allowed to pass it off as 'team racing'.
Any views?

With the Ferrari team so far in advance of every one else this year ( and all praise for their achievements!) I can see nothing wrong with their efforts to get their No2 driver into the second place in the drivers championship. To me that is team work - I can't fault Michael Schumacher - he is the best at the moment and any designated Champion to say yes I'll let my team mate win and come second in a race is a True Champion in my view. (That was said through very gritted teeth as I would far rather see each race fought out and the best car/driver winning!) Team Orders have to be obeyed (unless you want to forego your multi-million pound/dollar job)

I haven't any interest in motor racing, but I don't really think there's an analogy between "match fixing" in cricket and the Ferrari tactics in the Formula 1 championship.

In cricket the allegations are (in some cases) that players who are in the pay of gamblers have deliberately played to lose.

In the motor racing championships, if I understand Fosse4's post, a man who is already certain of the individual championship has allowed his fellow team member to finish ahead of him to give the team a better chance of the team title.

I don't see anything wrong with this. There doesn't seem to be any suggestion of bribery or corruption. Ferrari just seem to be making the optimum use of their resources. If one wants to find a cricketing analogy, it might be a case where the batting side needs runs quickly, and the captain orders a slow-scoring batsman to sacrifice his wicket.

Hi
I wouldn't call it match fixing - because the end purpose is to win for the team (p.s I am still a SCHUMACHER fan )

Just because the other teams can't do it doesn't mean they dont want to do it - we will never know; Ferrari's achieved something this year that no car company has managed till now.
I will just call schumacher's tactics as just a "repaying an old favour".
Well instead of cribbing, these teams should try and make a match - well I remember in 1995 when schumi came over to ferrari - it was the place no sane driver would go - the only thing they had was PRIDE. then they struggled each year till 2000 to win their driver's championship (in 1999 they won the constructors) but they made significant progess each year.
By the way, the Ferrari fans doesn't mind this particular episode unlike in Austria.(inferred from the booking cancellation after each race)
"SCHUMI IS GOD"
