What is the best way to get gum out of your hair without cutting it?

Hmm, usually putting gum in the freezer will make removing it very easy, but since it's your head...

There was a thread earlier this month in this forum about Jif Peanut butter which said it was good for removing gum from hair!

It works...I leaned into a tree and got it stuck in my long hair when I was a kid..(I like climbing as much as Monkeycouzin) it worked like a charm.

My hubby owns a carpet/janitorial business and they have this stuff called "Goo Gone".......or something like that...."Goo Be Gone"...........and it soaks into the gum..and you let it sit for a bit, then you can rub it to work it out. It's rather greasy, but it works. I'm sure any janitorial warehouse or supply store would have something similar. Other than that, I agree with the peanut butter option.

Goo gone is great stuff. It will take tar off a fender!. It also takes the glue off of glass when you take the label off. Hadn't heart of it for spot cleaning on carpeting though. Thanks for the info. Hmmm. does your hubby make house calls? I have some carpets......

Rubbing alcohol works great. It breaks down the sugar, allowing you to remove the gum and not the hair.

Freezing it by rubbing an ice cube over it will help. Freezing it makes it hard and "crunchy" and the biggest chunks will be easier to get out.

My hubby (janitorial business) says there is also a spray application for removing gum. It "freezes" it without the freezer! That can be purchased at a janitorial supply store, too, or maybe even a hardware store!

On your glowing consumer recommendations I bought a bottle of Goo Gone today. Since I have little hair left and don't chew gum I will have to use it for its other properties.

I am not sure , but it might work - try chopping off the head!

Not being a gum chewer, in fact I loath seeing people chew gum (and will tell them so), how on earth do you get the foul muck in your hair to start with? Revolting stuff.

In Australia, we use eucalyptus oil, which you can buy in the supermarket. I don't know if you'll be able to get it in America.

Another product we have is called Zoff, which you can buy in a pharmacy (drug store). Doctors usually use Zoff for removing adhesive from bandages and for removing plaster when they have applied a cast to a broken limb.

Just today the son of my neighbor left gum in his trousers -- then into the wash they went. She wound up with gum all over the inside of her dryer. Nicely glued by the heat to the sides of it. She tried everything, and then I brought over Goof Off. I advised her not to keep her head in the dryer very long! She'd probably get a nice buzz going. But it worked in a snap!

Good one June!
Reminds me of the time Mom put a pair of jeans with Crayolas in them and batiked the whole load of wash.

Whose fault was it that the Crayolas were in the jeans, Bruyere? I'll bet it wasn't your Mom's!

YOu don't know the Shaggy song, "wadn't me?"

I had marker pens, not crayons by that time! All sorts of brothers to blame stuff like that on.
Plus, my baby doll nightie had permanent damage...imagine my future slumber parties..I'd waited so long!
