Miss. World contestants from Norway, Denmark, Switzerland, Belgium, France, Spain, Kenya, and the Ivory Coast have said they will be boycotting the Miss. World pageant in the name of the stoning-by-death sentence of
Amina Lawal Kurami.
The Miss. World contest is supposed to be held in Nigeria, where the sentence was handed down, and the government has been hoping that the pageant will boost revenues for the country.
On the Miss. World
website, there is a plea for the contestants to continue to participate in the Miss. World pageant stating that, "boycotting Nigeria is unjust and counterproductive."
While a lot of attention is going out to the Kurami case, in Nigeria there is a couple sentenced to death for adultery that weren't even told yet. Lawyers and relatives are allowed to visit the couple so long as they don't tell the couple about their
sentence.
