I admit I do not agree with most of the artist on a recent music channel's choices for the 100 sexiest artists in the music industry. So the reason for posting this topic is:

Who would you nominate?

I don't know who was included on the list either, but I'd vote Anthony Kiedis of Red Hot Chili Peppers numbers 1 through 100 inclusively.

I saw the specials on VH1 and I agreed with about 70 out of the 100. Whoever chose the list did pretty good on most of the choices.

Um, I didn't post the list. It was just for you guys to decide who you think is the sexiest artist out there. If you want the list I guess I can find it somewhere....

Oh my goodness! Two of my three were posted before I got a chance! I guess we all think alike. Anthony was on there, though I didn't see it, but Raine wasn't at all! Doesn't that just stink?

However, my third one is Jon Bon Jovi. He was pretty high on the list but I think he should have been first/second/third. One of those places.

Has anyone noticed how all the really good ones are married? Raine, Jon, jeez, it can just ruin the dreams of a girl!

Julian Casablancas, the lead singer from The Strokes, is pretty sexy. And he has that voice too...

...but don't start me talking about musos. I love music and I think they're all sexy....

Sadly, I am going to have to reevaluate my choice of sexiest artist. Somehow, I managed to go more than a decade without hearing Anthony Kiedis speak. Sure, I'd seen him perform, and read the odd interview, but I'd never witnessed his unedited expression of ideas--until tonight. He and the band were featured in one of those 'interactive' fan q and a sessions on Much Music (Canadian version of MTV). It was pitiful. His most eloquent response was a cliched and meaningless platitude about the most important thing in the world being joy, despite all the 'bad stuff' going on across the globe. His least eloquent response was nonsensical. Oh, my bubble has been burst! Suddenly he seems vapid, he seems shallow, he seems....dare I say it?....uncool! He may still be beautiful, but I can no longer find him sexy. If there is one thing that kills sex appeal for me, it is the absence of intelligence. You guys were right--even the most talented of musicians can be a real disappointment when he or she uses a microphone to speak rather than perform. Oh well, I'm sure Anthony won't be losing any sleep. Now, I have to find a new rocker to admire....one with a brain. Any suggestions?

Thank you, Molly. Of that list I don't agree with:

59. Bruce Springsteen
58. The Go-Go's
56. Vanessa Williams
54. Joan Jett
53. Roger Daltrey
52. Stevie Nicks
49. Nirvana - Kurt Cobain, lead singer
48. En Vogue
47. Usher
46. Tommy Lee
45. Jewel
43. Susanna Hoffs
42. Ricky Martin
38. Toni Braxton
37. Robert Plant
36. Aaliyah
35. Michael Hutchence
34. Sade
31. Marvin Gaye
29. Will Smith
26. Cher
23. D'Angelo
21. Steven Tyler
20. Duran Duran
19. Mariah Carey
18. Debbie Harry
14. Lenny Kravitz
12. David Bowie
10. Janet Jackson
8. Britney Spears
7. Jim Morrison
6. Tina Turner
5. Prince
4. Mick Jagger
3. Jennifer Lopez
2. Elvis Presley
1. Madonna

And of that I really don't agree with:

97. Kid Rock
89. Chrissie Hynde

And in my book I think these should have gotten higher that what they got:

Personally, I don't understand this list at all, and I'm shocked that VH1 would put out such tripe alongside what seemed to be other relatively legitimate lists (i.e. ones based on musical ability and voted on by peers). What difference does it make if a musician is 'sexy' or not? Wouldn't it be considered completely absurd if there was a list of '100 sexiest politicians' or '100 sexiest nuclear physicists'?

I think it's safe to say that the advent of MTV and VH1 effectively killed the possibility of a preponderance of quality music. Certainly there is a lot of good quality music being put out on a regular basis, but the insistence on people who have 'photogenic' appearances has really damaged the music business...Joni Mitchell was right with her recent statements about the music business being a 'cesspool'.

Also, can someone please explain to me how and why Madonna is considered 'sexy'? What is sexy about a woman who apparently will give away her sexuality so cheaply? In my estimation, one imperative component of sexiness (if I may use such a term) is subtlety. There is no subtlety in Madonna's style.

If I were to choose a 'sexy' musician (though it aches to do this, as I'd rather abstain) surely it would be someone like Annie Lennox who does not flaunt herself in front of the camera like a tramp. Rather, she maintains her dignity while singing...and leaving her sexuality shrowded within the imagination of her listener.

Speaking as a girl, I have to say that Stevie Nicks is a far better choice than Madonna for #1, and should've been way higher than Britney.

I didn't see one mention of Geoff Tate from Queensryche he should list pretty high - WOO HOO!

Hi, haven't had the time to scroll down properly, but Magpie, suppose we've all had a gander at that young hunk there getting his tattoos...we might want to take it off...ooops...the image I mean not anything else.

I think the androgynous look of Annie Lennox lends itself to her stage persona...I see what Jazz means. I remember when her first hits came out, we all wondered whether she was a man or woman!
I love George Michael's voice and though in recent times he seems to have exploited his capital there, I still find the mood of his voice quite interesting.

As to the sexiness Jazz, for me, I don't think it's just the antics of Madonna they're talking about, but the combination of music plus stage persona.
On a comic note, one of my friends told me that his daughter and her friend were discussing her during the panther video era, saying, "She's cool" "Yeah, can't tell she's as old as she is, what is she about 42?" His age at the time.

Someone whom I've always loved is Dolly Parton as she's so frank about her stage stuff and yet remains pretty true to herself. I've always loved the sweetness she exhibits despite all the crude jokes about her physique.
She basically says, "so what?" Keeps her private life out of her public life.
I also admire Cher as she's upfront about all her plastic surgery and stuff, just keeps on going.
Look at Tina Turner too! Whew! WHat a woman!

Stevie Nicks has a great following here at FT! Whew, we had to get out the fire extinguisher there at one point!

Rod Stewart had a certain something...not quite sure what it was.

For me it's not the physical aura, it's more the combination of voice and stage persona.

I wonder what it is about Rod Stewart, too. I have always had a "thing" for him, especially during the "Downtown Train" years. The way he looked in that long black coat in the video......sigh

"Tonight's the night"...in my opinion.
Scruffy hair? Don't know either. He's kind of natural, doesn't make a lot of pretense about who he is.

Mick Jagger leaves me cold though.
I don't like the timbre of his voice.

Sade has a really pretty voice, we've got quite a few CDs of hers. She's a beauty.

This will date me but I used to like Kris Kristofferson.

It could be the hair with Rod. All those soft looking spikes

Mick has never done anything for me either. First off, he is too skinny, then you get to the voice....

I remember when I was in high school, it was all about PRINCE. He is another skinny one, but that hair flopping over his eye really made me sit up and take notice. Plus he just had such a stage presence that most girls couldn't help but dream about.

So where the heck is Linda Ronstadt??? (1970's version, NOT 1990's )
Speaking about the women on the list (because I'm certainly no expert on the men!), I'd give a personal nod to Olivia, Stevie Nicks, Sade, Lauryn Hill, Janet Jackson, Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey and Shania, and a HELL YEAH! to Toni Braxton.

Maybe someone can explain the Tom Jones mystique to me. I don't know if it is because I am from the wrong generation, or maybe it is just me, but I just don't get it.
I don't get the Wayne Newton thing either.

Tom Jones, "Sex Bomb" was a major hit here in Europe. It was on this disco tape I bought for my kid...then heard a French accent, turns out it is a copy by French bands!
Oh well, it was in my stolen car.

After seeing the first entry #100. David Lee Roth, I really doubt that the people putting this list together made any kind of serious commitment in their choices.

I peeved me an awful lot to see the newer younger stars made it to the top of the list, whereas the older stars that have had staying power and have managed to stay good looking are near the end. It seems like a big popularity contest with a few oldies thrown in for good measure. You'll notice that there are few, if any, non main stream artists on the list.

By the way, where are Ozzy Osbourne and Eddie Van Halen?

I wonder why Richard Ashcroft was left out of this list. I know little about his personality but I think he should be topping the list just for his looks and what may be called sex appeal. I liked him even better in the Verve days, though.

Well, this isn't a list of talented singers, is it? And sexy doesn't equate talent.

I think anybody with eyes in their head would have had to agree that Elvis was a fine looking man when he was young, but it's his wonderful singing voice that keeps me buying his CD's long after he's gone.

On the other hand, I don't think there was ever a voice like Roy Orbison's--and he was no great shakes in looks, but I could listen to his CD's all day long. I thought his voice made him attractive.
