Babymoo, when I lived in Michiana, or the border region between Michigan, Indiana and even Illinois, it was incredibly confusing. And the one thing was the television schedules and flights. Even if you were in a place that didn't change clocks, around you the other states did...therefore, you had a problem adjusting. Come to think of it, I just recalled a picturesque scene from my Indiana stay, getting up and using that spray thing for my car lock (thank goodness I hadn't locked it into the vehicle) and then still trying to open the damn door without breaking the key off in the lock...and then feeling my thumb go out of the socket as I pushed...I was in excruciating pain, in the cold wind, and still had to drive to work in the snow... I don't much miss that, plus it's dark in the morning! I did love Indiana for the people though...very very kind folks.

Television at the bottom of Indiana is confusing too. For the counties on the same time as Evansville it is ok, but for those of us an hour ahead of Evansville, tv is an hour behind. The stations from Louisville, Ky are an hour ahead. For some reason they stay an hour ahead of me all year long. Indiana doesn't get nearly the snow it used to My theory is if it has to be cold it might as well snow. I just love snow - other than driving in it. I think if I had popped my thumb out of the socket, I would have called in sick that day OUCH

Dare I say the dreaded "S" word???
Speaking of snow --- well, I can report the first snowflakes of the coming winter have fallen here. (Just a few flakes, but it's still snow.)
It's about 11 a.m. here on Tuesday morning --- we have a current temperature of 1 degree Celsius (about 34 degrees Fahrenheit), it's cloudy and windy. They are calling for a high of under 5 degrees Celsius (about 40 degrees Fahrenheit), cloudy with snow/snow showers. The rest of this week has a similar forecast. We may be wearing snowsuits under the Halloween costumes here on Halloween! (Don't laugh --- it happens in Canada!!!)
Fortunately, snow this early either melts upon reaching the ground or at least it doesn't stay around long if it does manage to cover the ground.
We've got some cattle looking forward to being in the barn till spring --- the young ones in pens will stay in till spring, they can get their exercise in their pens --- the cows go out for a couple of hours daily all winter so they get some exercise.
The cows have been in at night for a week or so --- they're staying in today during the day for the first time. We'll bring in the young ones later on this afternoon --- hopefully they'll be cold enough to cooperate and make it an easy job for us.

ElfTwinkle, you are so lucky!!!! I live for the first snow of the year!! I love watching it fall, so even if it melts as it hits the ground I am happy! Today we made it to 42 F, I am not sure how cold it is supposed to get tonight, but by Thursday night we are going to have a low of 26 F, and the next few nights after that will be in the 20's also. I can remember a couple years of Trick or Treating in the snow. Mom made us bundle up so much that our costumes couldn't be seen. We weren't happy about it (no kid is), but all the kids were bundled up, so we weren't alone in not getting to show off our costumes. Give all the moos a "get warm" hug from me

At the last job I had, in the county below mine (the one that is technically on the slower time zone, but the factories are on the fast time), the company ran on both times. It was a factory. The people who worked in the factory were on fast time, but the offices worked on slow time. Since I was the cleaning person, I was allowed to choose which time I wanted to work on. It didn't take long to realize I was better off only looking at my watch and not any of the clocks in the building, from October through April.

Let it snow! Let it snow! Let It snow! Our "winter wonderland" is here! I don't think I'm ready for winter yet --- however, we have now had our first snowstorm of the season. It's pretty much over (for now -- we're to get more off and on from now till Monday or Tuesday). Right now our temperature is around the freezing mark and we have 2 or 3 inches worth of snow on the ground. Yes --- I have built my first snowman, and thrown my first snowball , for the winter of 2002-2003 ! We're in a winter wonderland, but I really do hope that this melts again --- I truly am not ready for winter to arrive quite yet.

That's it! I'm going to ElfTwinkle's! I am SOOOO ready for snow! I have heard that there is a small chance we might get a little tomorrow, but I doubt it. Most of the tv and radio stations are calling for rain.

I hate living in places where if a snowflake falls, people act like chickens with their heads cut off. Now in Indiana, the Lake Effect snow would come in, you'd be shopping for groceries...and you'd go out and see an enormous pile of snow on top of your car! Noone worried in the least about it. In Pennsylvania, I survived the winter of 93/94 in which we had ice storms, snow storms...no electricity, state troopers closing down the expressway to all non emergency traffic, and general chaos. We had a four by four back then, and went to buy groceries for neighbors. THe heater wouldn't work, as though it was a gas heater the timer was run by electricity.

Morning, Heather! Must say, here in the snow capital of Canada, we haven't seen a flake yet! It's getting durned COLD, though. This weekend is supposed to be dry, sunny and COLD. Must be an Arctic front. I don't like snow. We had a very heavy frost Hallowe'en night and it looked like snow and stayed all day today........and that's about right for me!

We were in Oklahoma a few winters ago. We went to the grocery store, because we needed groceries anyway, and it was incredibly busy. People were going nuts over the milk, bread, water, etc. They were all talking about the snow, and how horrible it was. I couldn't help but laugh, because the snow had stopped before we had even left for the store, and you could still see the pavement and sidewalks through it - and they weren't calling for any more snow! I even told a few people that if they wanted to see real snow they should come to Indiana for a while.

We only got rain over the weekend. I knew it was too good to be true. I just want a white Christmas. If that is the only snow I get all winter I will be okay with it. Like I have said before, it seems we get less snow every year.

Thanks but no thanks Ozzz. Our summer was dry enough, without it being as bad as what you have it now.

Ozzz...I rec'd a picture of King's Park (in Perth) all decked out for Christmas. It was spooky! All these mature mangly trees with flood lights! I guess I need a little snow and frost! It would be interesting to see just how I felt about Christmas in a southern clime! blue spent years in Trinidad and she said the poinsettias (which were almost like trees there) were particularly beautiful! Hope your fire fear doesn't come to pass. That's scary.

I couldn't imagine being somewhere warm for Christmas. Even on the years we don't have snow, at least it is usually cold. I remember several years back (about 6 ) , the week before Christmas we had a warm spell. About 4 days before Christmas, I was sitting out on the balcony of my dad's apartment, wearing shorts and a t-shirt, listening to the youth group from the Church up the street caroling a couple houses away. It just felt odd.
