I installed Netscape 7.0 yesterday. It works really well but, even though I can’t put my finger on why, I still prefer Internet Explorer. Maybe that’s just a question of familiarity though. I'll persist with for a while to see if I can get used to it.

One good thing that it brought to the fore is Radio*@Netscape (The asterisk is not part of the name. It is included here to stop the name being an email link). This is run only by Netscape and it has some really good music categories on it. What’s more, with my 128Kb modem the music plays with only a very occasional faulter.

It played so well through the small computer speakers that I decided to give it some real hi-fi sound. I had a Sony pro-logic amplifier mothballed in the loft. It had been there ever since our house move around 2 years back. I also have a pair of Wharfedale bookshelf speakers.

I unwrapped all the gear and spent the best part of the day placing the speakers and amplifier and wiring them up. The result is that I can now play various categories of Country music, Rock or Classical music via the Internet and the sound quality is really good. It does have the occasional audio advertisement but not enough to spoil the music.

Radio*@Netscape doesn’t only come with the Netscape browser. It can be downloaded separately and is free (I love that word!). Just type the name into Google and the link will take you to the download site. The performance of the radio might be dependant on the speed of your Internet connection but if it is good enough, the application is worth having in my opinion.

Telly, what is the difference between this Netscape Radio thingy and the regular radio stations you can get on the internet?

Having read your post tellywellies, I decided to give Netscape a try. I LOVE these broadband connections! The radio station you mentioned is amazing choice-of-music-wise, but the quality of feed isn't that great, so it looks like I have to get a far better sound card to go along with the GFX one, which has now been determined as the cause of my computer problems.

Netscape has put lots of different types of music into categories. I haven't seen that anywhere before.

For instance there is a category called 'Country and Folk' under this are 11 different types of that sort of music i.e. 90's Country music, Bluegrass etc.

Under the title of 'Pop' there are 14 different types of Pop music and so on.

The music plays continuously with no commentary. It just has a break for a short advertisement every so often. The titles and musicians are displayed as the music plays. There is also an option to buy the CD. There are a few advertisements in the radio Window but nothing too obtrusive.

We have some iMac version of Internet Radio. I never think to use it, and couldn't even tell you how to get to it. Mr. Moo uses it quite a bit, and I enjoy listening to it when he has it on.

OK, now I get the difference! The only radio thing I do on my PC is listening to this German radio station. I used to listen to it all the time when on holiday, so it's great that I can get it at home as well! But my speaker is soooo tiny... I guess I'm off to the store now to buy a connection cable to connect it to my Hi-Fi set!

I do like the radio player & the choice of channels, but Netscape is one thing I just cannot get used to. It's horrible. Like Tellywellies said, maybe I'm just more accustomed to IE, but navigating around netscape just seems to take ages rather than doing something on IE & knowing what I've done.
Netscape now uninstalled & back with IE6.

prefer Opera as a browser but Mr Micro-soft has a problem with that at times, so it is IE 6 for me.
I used Netscape a long time ago - I installed Netscape 6 when it was released - a decision still regretted!

Netscape 6 was a disaster, I was almost glad that my hard drive packed up and needed replacing, I then went back to Netscape 4.79 which is a great improvement. I hate IE, I find it much slower than Netscape.

I tried Netscape 6 and also formed the opinion that I was better off without it. Netscape 7 seems much better and maybe I could get used to it.

However, I still lean towards IE. There is always something that that Netscape can't handle. A few thing I have noticed:

1. I can't open up my web pages in the web editor of my choice from within Navigator. They will only open in Composer. It is possible to set the web editor preference in IE.

2. Some form boxes, like the one we write the posts in here, turn out a different size in Netscape and the text won't wrap within the box. It goes out of view. The FT one is OK but I have found there are one or two that aren't. It maybe that the code in the construction of the page is not quite right, or it was written for IE. Whatever, IE seems more tolerant of that kind of thing.

3. Composer has a spell checker in version 7. So why not make that operative in Navigator for operations like when we're typing posts?

If I used Netscape as my default browser I would have to do without IE spell check, which I find really handy. Nonetheless, it is the best Netscape browser I've tried so far so I'll keep trying it out for a while yet.

The only problem that I have is the text not wrapping here, very frustrating as I cannot see what I am typing.

One reason for using Netscape in the office is that I like to test my pages in both Netscape and IE, the rest of the staff all use IE. I have noticed that when I am specifying the font face IE will use that font inside tables without having to specify it in every cell, with Netscape you do have to specify it... if I only used IE my pages wouldn't look right to Netscape users.
