Does anyone find Curling, the most dumbest sport ever? What is the point to this sport?

Never thought about it but I don't know that much about it either! It's just like lawn bowls without the lawn isn't it? The good thing about these games is that becasue they aren't hugely reliant on physical strength most everyone can play them.

Who ever came up with this sport, must have been bored out of their mines. I actually watch this sport and don't even understand it myself.

I've never played curling, but when I was in Germany I played a version of it that required no ice, just asphalt. And I have to admit it was great fun! But I tend to think of it more as a game than a sport...

The inventors probably were some French people stuck in Alaska and unable to play regular boules...

I don't know . It has its benfits:
1) It cures insomnia
2) I get rid of people who come to watch TV at my house by telling them I am watching curling.
3) It cures TV addiction (people like me who spent 5-10 hours a day in front of it)
4) It reinforces my belief that I am not the only demented character in this world
5) And it amuses me

First, yes it is a bit like lawn bowls on ice. It is a Scottish sport, much played in my homeland, Canada.

I used to curl regularly when I lived in Canada. Unlike bowls, a certain amount of physical strength is required. The stones are heavy, and sweeping the ice vigourously whilst propelling oneself in a sliding motion along the ice takes quite a lot of energy. The introduction of brushes to replace corn brooms has made this task somewhat easier.

There is a lot of skill and strategy involved. Knowing when to play a draw instead of a takeout, where to place a guard, whether to call for an inturn or outturn, when to sweep etc is all part of the skip's armoury. Once the decision has been made, the curler then has to execute and that is where the skill comes in.

I could go on and on, but you will have gathered that I do not find curling a boring sport.

I think that unless you know and understand a sport you will find it odd and boring.

everyone likes different things.
Curling is like one big chess match.
lotsa strategy involved.

Prior to the last Winter Olympics, I knew very little about Curling. The British women's team then won the gold, and I now consider Curling to be one of the world's greatest sports (after triple jump and women's modern pentathlon).
