Absolutely Ladymac. Thanks for the info as I have been away from the news all day. One is 17?? WOW! My in-laws live in Culpepper, VA about 60 miles south of DC and we are more worried than they are, but let's hope this is soon over.

Press conference over: Chief Moose says not to assume these guys are the killer in DC - only that the man is wanted for Federal Firearms Violations. He also said something to the killer - about 'we have caught the sniper like a duck in a noose' and said for him to contact the authorities because they have an answer about his 'option'. I have a feeling (hope?) that these people are the ones responsible. That we are not to 'assume' it is them because they don't want the public taking things into their own hands. Keep hoping

Now they have to find them.
I hope that they have the right men. Finally there is some glimmer of hope in this case.

I've been watching, too, lady macB. The older man they are looking for, they showed his picture on TV, apparently was in the American military and lived near the army base in Tacoma, Washington, and they were looking for bullet-type evidence in a tree stump on his ex-property? They also went to his step-son's high school from last January in Bellingham, I believe. Didn't say why. They think the two might be travelling together. They do say they are to be considered "armed and dangerous". I'm thinking that perhaps these two "persons of interest" may have key information about the weapon identified as the sniper's, and that may just be it, and the big kafuffle is because they need to talk to him NOW.
Regarding the situation of Chief Moose's last press appearance...I'm just wondering. He said this "wanted" man is not wanted in connection with the recent snipings. I believe him, because in the second part of his presentation, Chief Moose is still making appeals to the sniper (if it IS the sniper making these contacts), to get in touch with them and gives him several options. He is trying to gain the sniper's trust and cooperation.
I don't think Chief Moose would say we are "hunting you down" on one hand and then say, "but please get in touch and trust us" on the other? Or maybe I just don't get it.

That's what I was thinking - but maybe he was going at solving this two ways - either finding him/them or giving in? Anyway, was just watching TV and apparently they're not the same person - they current theory is that these two who are wanted have some VERY good information about this killer - and that the killer may try to get to them before police can. Apparently the killer wants money wired to his credit card - and he's killed again because the police didn't comply on time. So here's a thought: Why don't they just put the money on his credit card? I mean - HELLO? How stupid is this guy? Let him use it once to show the money's there and to see where he is...then you can catch him. Anyway, more late-night ramblings from me. I can't wait until this is over - my recycling stuff is piling up - roommates and i don't want to go up the hill to the bins because they have woods on 2 sides... Thank goodness the garbage dumpster is closer!

I these these "persons of interest" are definitely suspects. That's why they are considered "armed and dangerous".
But I think the police still have to try to communicate with these people. They want to track them down--they are dangerous and they don't know where they are. They'd rather try to keep a line of communication open with them to keep them from killing anyone else. Who knows what that message meant that the Police Chief sent out to them--but it probably has meaning for the sniper. Perhaps they are trying to work out a surrender or just trying to get a sense of where these two men might be.
I hope this comes to an end soon without anyone else getting killed.

I'm still watching, too, ladymacb. You'd better get to bed! At least the recycling doesn't get ripe! You can catch up on the coverage in the morning. Stay safe. I hope it will all be over for your communities very soon. I'll go tune in for some more "conjecture"! Take care.

Oh, I wanted to say 'give them the money so (t)he(y) won't kill anyone else.
Anyway... if these people aren't the killer, then they know exactly who is.
Keep hoping...

You know it's late when I keep forgetting things...
ON TV they also were putting out an alert for a MD license plate... Has anyone heard why? The two men Chief Moose talked about had an alert for a NJ one.

No - I'm pretty sure I saw another thing on FoxNews alerting about a MD licesne plate (there were more than 4 things after the "MD").
Oh, the MD car is supposed to be a White Celebrity (Chevrolet made them, I believe).

These reporters and analyzers are sometimes forgetting that they are speaking on public television and that there is no guarantee that the killer or killers are not tuning in. Saying things like, "He is saying this, but," "They are putting their names out so that hopefully they will try to clean up their mess and lead the police to evidence," "Moose worded it that way so," etc.
Where is the commonsense?
They want to help with the capture (which they may be doing), they want to get their story, but it is also as if they are aiding the murderer by giving him hints.

Yeah, but the chances are half of these 'hints' are way off.
Right now, the only way the police can contact the sniper is through the media - that's why he didn't take any questions tonight. Tonight's press conference was about getting their message to the sniper and putting out the APB on the two men.
And did you guys notice how the press actually 'backed off' Monday? They were asked not to release the name of the hospital - they didn't. They were asked not to say where the roadblocks were - they didn't.
I just want this to be over. Then I'll think about how the media behaved.

I think making the connection between the parties has been the only worth of the media up to this point.
The reporters and analyzers should censor themselves. Not only stop stating their beliefs of the motives of every move the police make, but like during the weekend, "He'll probably not attack this weekend, he hasn't on weekends so far." They repeated sentiments like that over and over and was it really that much of a surprise that the murder decided to prove them wrong?
Profilers have been saying that he might be getting a high on this stuff, but they are probably fueling it.

My friend who learned that her local gas station had been the scene of one of the shootings said that people eventually would give up and fill up there, as they assumed he would not strike twice in the same place! What a sad statement...
Aren't they giving out way too much information? Don't they want to avoid vigilante things?

I was watching the news about this - they said something the fact that they got a call asking them to investigate the Alabama shootings - and it seems that how they were able to reach Mr Joe. (BBC) Can anyone fill me up on this (and the Alabama shootings)?

Re: Alabama: Apparenty they got an anonymous tip to look into a shooting at a liquor store 5 weeks ago in Alabama. They did and found Molvo (17 year-old)'s fingerprints. And he fits the description of the guy who shot 2 people (1 killed) there.
Also, the reason they got the plates for the NJ car: Muhammed was stoppped by Baltimore police on Oct 8 - they took down his license and the car he was driving - the NJ plates one.
And, the man who was shot in DC: A witness said they saw a burgundy Chevy Caprice at the scene - the NJ car is a blue Chevy Caprice.

In reply to:
No - but even without the media saying that we all knew he was going to kill on a weekend. Why? Because it wasn't in keeping with what he had been doing. This guy was doing everything NOT to be stereotyped as a 'gas station' or 'Michael's' killer. He's changed his pattern each time so that there isn't a pattern.
That is a given, but it would have been responsible of them not to say those things repeatedly. That and "experts" on FOX mouthing off about the mistakes they hoped the murderers would make. In addition, when the immigrants were surrounded by the telephone booth and people thought it was the murders, CNN encouraging a passerby to get closer to the action in order to get the story.
The coverage was just very irresponsible.
