The two men in the "DC Sniper" case have been caught! The men they were looking for last night were found - with a rifle, etc. in their car - they were planning another killing.

But they are IN CUSTODY!

It's over. I just want to thank all of the people who kept positive feelings in their notes, those who prayed/hoped, etc.

Now I have a ton of recyling to lug up the hill to the bins... I can go near the woods again

In reply to:

The letter contained the phrase "word is bond," which appears in the lyrics of one of the band's songs. Moose echoed those words during a news conference.

That's from Cnn.com - and you know what's weird? When Chief Moose said "Our word is our bond" last night I thought that was something that he got from the sniper...

And you know who gave the tip to Alabama? The sniper - he was trying to be taken seriously.

I'm so relieved to be posting in this chain! I was going to post something early this morning, but everything was still quite up in the air and they weren't really saying that they HAD the sniper(s), just that they "sort of" had them! I was so pleased for you and all my American neighbours that this season of terror was finally over. Now get off your rear and cart that stuff up the hill! I'm still watching the coverage for nuances and such. Thank God! ~Lea

Yes, Murphy can.

Now if only the poor people in that theater in Moscow can get out safely...

*sigh* there's always something. Can't we all just have a day of peace? I mean, it is United Nations Day...

I didn't notice it was United Nations Day. Yes, peace would be wonderful, but I'm afraid I have come to believe it is unattainable, between neighbours or between countries, as long as humans are involved! Oops! Sounds like an "original" Star Trek where people just stood in front of computers and wiped each other out and Won or Lost based on the calculations! Very sanitized. Just thank God for your relief this day. In your field of study, ladymacB, I'm sure I don't have to tell you that! ~Lea

That is the best news I have heard all week! I have been waiting for this since the beginning! I can imagine there are celebrations all over town!

I can only imagine the feeling of relief you must be experiencing. I am very glad that you and everyone else in the area can feel safe again. The strain of the last few weeks must have been awful. I feel for the families and victims who suffered during this time.

Thank goodness it's all over.

So, have they figured out the meaning of the "duck in a noose" thing, yet?

It was written in the letter the snipers sent. The 'duck in a noose' is referencing an old Cherokee (?) myth where a rabbit catches a duck in a noose, but the duck escapes and the rabbit falls into the trunk of a tree.

These two are not exactly the swiftest criminals--thank heavens.

One would have thought that they would have ditched the rifle before they were caught--and they had to know that the end was in sight when the police had a photo, car description and license plate #. But they kept the rifle!

Had the police not found the rifle they could not have definitely linked them to the sniper shootings--they wouldn't have had enough evidence to convict them without the rifle. As it is I don't know how they can charge them in these sniper shootings--how can they know for sure which of the two killed which victim? They are trying to get the younger one to turn on the older man, and that's the only way they may get enough evidence to bring murder charges (in the sniper shootings at least). Otherwise they won't know who to charge with what.

So, LadyMacb, did you finally get to cart your recycling items away yet?

But at 1AM they were sleeping at the rest stop. We weren't getting reports of suspects/description/etc until about 11PM - so they could have been asleep at the time and never knew that the police had a good idea of who to look for.

But one of the 'big clues' was one of them trying to be taken seriously by telling them to look into the shooting in Montgomery!

Forgot to add that yes, we took out our recycle stuff. But it seems that everyone else in the area did as well - the bins were overflowing so we just piled our things neatly on top!

I just had a little afterthought, here. If they were apparently sleeping in their car, where were they when they were watching the coverage on a television? Any indication of where they were staying or accomodating themselves, ladymacb? Chief Moose was relaying messages over the media............was it on radio locally like that too? Just wondered? Where were they staying?

They weren't staying anywhere... they had rented rooms three times during this whole thing... But they were both homeless, neither had a job... they stayed at a YMCA in Ashland the one time...

It's great to see everyone out and about once again! Watching CNN (no! ME?) and it looks like things are quite normal on the surface! Hope there aren't too many after effects. Now the media is doing a post mortem of their own coverage. I wonder if they'll learn anything? News is now "the making of the news"? Oh, and there is now another person in federal custody...Nathaniel somebody...who was a co-owner of the impounded car.

Maybe they never saw much of the television coverage. That was only speculation that they were watching TV and relishing in the attention. They may have actually seen very little of it.
