If memory serves me correctly, the remaining members of 'Lynyrd Skynyrd' reckon they took the name from an old high school teacher.
However, I beg to differ. I have had occasion over the last few days to listen quite a lot to Allan Sherman's 'Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah'. If anyone remembers it, there is a line in it that goes, 'you remember Leonard Skinner, he got ptomaine poisoning last night after dinner'.
This was released around 1961, so that would predate the band by a long time.
Any thoughts?

Well, can't comment too much about where the name came from but I'm dying to know WHY you've listen to "Hello Muddah Hello Faddah" 'quite a lot' !!

OK, I'll blab.
My daughter is going on a school camp in December (her first), and my wife, who has gone on all the camps that Jr. Wonderful has gone on, can't go on this one.
To mesh two thoughts together, a couple of weeks ago, local radio 4KQ played 'Hello Muddah' as a 'lost classic', and I suggested straight away that that could have been our Rachel. I have spent the last couple of weeks looking for the song to play to the kids, and finally found it on a website last night. They thought it was marvellous, and I'm like you - I've done nothing but sing it to myself ever since!
