Hi eveyone! I think that there should be a "Top Ten Quizzes" spot on the homepage--maybe because one of my quizzes is number 3! (for the moment) Anyway, what do you think? I would love for to hear your input.

I think that would be really interesting Trishy - I had a quiz that was number 3 a couple of weeks ago, and then it went down to 6, and now has moved off to 66 or something, but I have often wondered how to find out what was occupying the top spot. A 'Top 10 Quiz' list would also give quizmakers added incentive to try and compile interesting, informative and fun quizzes, especially now that the 'editors' choices' seems to have died a death. A good idea

We used to have a "Top Twenty" - I'm not sure what happened to it. Perhaps it went when the new version of the site came in?

Editors' Choice is still very much alive. Many quizzes are in that category and are accessible via that link.

Trishy, I know exactly which quiz of yours is in the top--and it's one of my favorites on the site. Way to go!

Trishy, you only came onto the forum to brag about your quiz, didn't you? Anyway, a list of top 10 quizzes wouldn't be a great idea, because people that get into the top 10 are just lucky, and they're mostly American quizzes created by American people. There are many excellent quizzes on this website that don't even come close to this milestone.

I've got a better idea, what about a top 10 list from each country that quizmakers come from. If there was just a top 10 from all quizzes, then the good old US of A would be very well represented unfortunately, with 10 out of 10 at all times.

My idea is to have a Top 200, comprised of the Top 10 from each main Category. The Top 200 would change each week, as the quizzes are re-ranked. I think that might even things up for quizmakers who make interesting quizzes in less-frequented categories like Seasonal and Geography.

nmck, can I have some 'bragging' rights here?
In reply to:

I was fortunate enough to have two quizzes in the top 10, and four in the top 40, all at the same time. All were Aussie-based topics. I do not consider that it was all due to luck; they are (in my humble opinion) just well-written and informative.

I also think that the idea of a top 10 (or 20, or 50) is a great idea! It might be difficult to do a top 10 from each author's country, however, as many authors do not put their nationality in their profile.

Well, I didn't start this post to brag. A top ten in every category is a cool idea too. As far as the quizzes being mostly American, I didn't know that. A top ten overall, in each category or by country--just a top ten, whatever. However it's sliced is fine with me.

How about a top 10000 quiz excluding all the quizzes by editors (especifically those manning the sports counter)?
Everyone bothers about the well written quizzes, how about incentives for the people who write (not intentionally) the worst quizzes? After all to have a Top 10 ,You need to have a fair share of losers. (you can't have a top 10 quiz without people like me who write idiotic quizzes)

Ozzzz, tie me kangaroo down boy!
Just kidding. Just jealous I never hit it, and I'm from the USA.
(once again this is sarcasm, in the event of real jealousy you will be notified.)

The top ten in terms of scoring has more to do with popularity of the subject matter, or.....how about the popularity of the quizmaker? I mean, now some of us have that notify feature for quizmakers whose work they enjoy.
It can also have to do with the timely nature of a quiz, ie: Dracula and Halloween, though if the quiz weren't reasonably well written that would not be sufficient enough to keep it there.

The real fun is getting a non top ten subject quiz to soar and stay up in the ratings.
That's my own challenge.

As to the bottom ten, I've got one of those!

There was a single Top 40 list (or Top 50 - I can't remember!), across all categories, until some time in May-June, when Terry rewrote most of the QL code, and introduced Gold Membership. He tinkers in the background every so often, testing new concepts, so it might make a comeback (maybe as part of the Gold Membership stats features). In the meantime, we can find the top quizzes by category, in the bottom LH corner of the Quizzyland Members page .. if you click on "top" for each category you can find the Top 10 quizzes, with a bit of time and patience. At the moment they are:

1. Assailing the Dream: U.S. Social Critics coolupway
2. Accessible Swahili the jazzkickazz
3. Films of Vincent Price draculanut31
4. The Music Of Carole King arob71
5. North American Wildflowers Morrigan716
6. 'The Godfather Part II' Quiz Beta 2 enfranklopedia
7. 'The World According To Garp' Trivia enfranklopedia
8. Which Opera Are They From? 2 stedman
9. Handel's "Messiah" belle_a_cello
10. Irish Myth: Ulster Cycle xaosdog

Trishy, why shouldn't you be proud of your quizzes? You put a lot of work in them--and it shows--and even though your Dracula quiz outranks mine--that's Okay- you're still one of my favorite quizmakers!

As to nationality this or that--never have I ranked a quiz by what country the quiz maker comes from. Why would I do that? What's the point? I hope that we all rank each other by the merits of each quiz we take.

Terry, could we get a "Top Rated Quizzes" entry in the hall of fame, maybe right beside the "Most Played Quizzes"?
