I wonder if you've all noticed the spam lines you're getting everyday...
Don' t put any of the obscene ones in here...but would any of you seriously consider opening one that addressed you as "hey"?
Or "You've just won a millon dollers." ?
Or "Your new morkidge is ready?"
"Where did you go last night?"
I'm wondering if they really think people will open these things!

Forget the pop-ups, what I can't believe is that people believe that they will be a mobile phone or some product by forwarding a mail! Some junk mailers even resort to sob stories!

One thing I look for is who it was sent from. Alot of them are from "your friend".... normal email doesn't show up that way. Another thing will be re: (anything that I didn't send a message to someone about, such as a mortgage) , in the subject line.
More are..

urgent response requested
your order status
any garbled nonsense "xyglgheihng@gghoig.com" etc

I could go on all night. They are tricky with alot of them, using a person's name as the sent by, so that it looks like real email. I usually go through the whole list and delete everything that isn't from someone or someplace I am familiar with.

The first thing that tells me whether an e-mail is spam or not is the language of the subject line. Since nearly no one I know would send me a message in English, I feel save to delete any mail with a subject line in English! That covers pretty much everything, I've never seen Dutch spam.

So you mean that the Dutch don't spam?
I remember getting a German message one day in my earlier naive days of the internet on a commercial system...I thought, "oh my, someone's got me mistaken with someone else..." I managed to read the message in my German then got to the part about "blond, generous forms, blue eyes...likes all sorts of fun.." well you get the picture!
It was one of those spamming programs!

I've gotten spam in Chinese as my former students would send me little cards and letters and I got on their junkmail lists.

I've asked around a bit and I can tell you that neither I nor my friends have ever received Dutch spam! I think it's too much trouble to go through to reach the (very small) Dutch-speaking population...

Most of my spam is American, all priced in dollars.

What annoys the heck out of me is some I receive at the office, they do something which fools my mail handler into thinking it is from us, we have an automated response to email (Thank you for your email, we will attend to it as soon as possible) and we end up sending this to ourselves!

I don't want a mortgage, I am not in debt, I don't want 'barnyard fun', I have no need for penile enlargement nor breast augmentation and I don't care how that money got in the 15 year boy's wardrobe, my printer doesn't want more ink even at bargain prices and you can stick the Viagra where the sun doesn't shine!

I presume (because he doesn’t say) that he already has a Molecular Time Warp Daylight Saving Correction Zener Diode.

The the other components he’s after would be of little use without one …even if he does leave his point in time after 6-15 P.M
