"What Ever Happened to Baby Jane" is an excellent movie. No one can act the part of an insane person like Bette Davis!
I alo really like most anything with Olivia DeHavilland.

I'm not really that into old movies, but my favorites are High Society, Singin' in the Rain, and Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. My sister could list a lot more, but that's all I've got.

Seven Brides for Seven Brothers...now that's one that I haven't seen yet. I'll have to look for it when it comes on Turner Classic Movies.

Depends what you class as old..Is 1961 old enough? If so, 'Whistle Down The Wind' with Haley Mills is my all time favourite. I think it was 1961 anyway. The musical just didn't do it justice in my opinion! Maybe I'm just a diehard fan!
"He's not Jesus, he's just a fella" is one of the best quotes ever from that film!

Sorry Trishy, I do like those films but what I consider my favorite is a movie that comes off the top of my head. I figure that if I have to work at remembering it it isn't.

Very cool lilgug!

You're right Molly, any film that you have to strain to remember isn't a favorite!

The old films I love to watch are The Great Escape, The Towering Inferno and The Poseidon Adventure. It doesn't matter how many times I see these films I never seem to get bored of them.

I seem to have lost a couple of decades somewhere... movies made during the 70's are now considered OLD??

You've lost a couple of decades? You wish, I wish! I expect it is just the onset of senility and you mislaid them rather than the fountain of youth.

As stated elsewhere 2001 best film ever.

I think it depends on what age you are whether you see a film as old or not.

There is a top 100 movies poll on the TV right now (as voted for by the British public) It will be interesting to see what the top 10 is and how many of them feature here. They are only at number 75 at the moment but we have already had mention of Brief Encounter (love that movie), Dr. Strangelove, Don't Look Now, et al. I will continue to watch (or at least listen as my PC faces the wrong way) with interest.

It's about a treaty that is found that says that the area of pimlico actually belongs to Burgundy. Pimlico is an area of London. It's set just after world war two and food rationing is still in place. The British Government has to try to regain control of Pimlico. It provides a lot comic moments. I haven't described it very well but it is a good film to watch.

I just recently saw a few more movies to add to my list:

Portrait of Jennie (1943)
Beauty For the Asking (1939)
British Intelligence (1940)

Portrait of Jennie stars Joseph Cotten and Jennifer Jones, Beauty For the Asking stars Lucille Ball. Not a comedy, but very good, I was impressed. British Intelligence stars Boris Karloff.

Ancient films... "Blue Angel "(Marlene Dietrich) and just about any Charlie Chaplin one - the ending of "City Lights" is one of the most beautifully acted, poignant scenes on film.
Very Old films...too many to list but I love "Rebecca"
Old films..."East of Eden" and "Some Like it Hot"
Middle-aged films...."Cabaret" and "Harold and Maude"
They're the ones that come immediately to mind.

When you specified OLD, my thoughts immediately turned to black and white movies, namely:
Arsenic and Old Lace
To Kill a Mockingbird
Picture of Dorian Gray
The Maltese Falcon (and almost anything with Humphrey Bogart in it)
Witness for the Prosecution (probably THE favourite, which is why I've written a quiz on it )

I love watching old classics with my 12-year-old daughter. Together we really enjoy:
The Sound of Music
The Parent Trap
The Wizard of Oz
My Fair Lady
The King and I
