Well, at least in Singapore.

It may seem weird, but it is true. They are relaxing their ban on gum, but you need a prescription for it.

That is odd. I understand wanting to keep the streets and trains clean. What I wonder is how do you prove you need a prescription for gum?

Gum is good for a few things, I've found. When I lost a lot of weight, it was a huge help to me! Unfortunately, I've kept the gum chewing habit, discreetly, of course, but a bit of the weight's crept back! People quitting smoking have also found it helpful, so perhaps that's how you could get a prescription for it. I'm thinking you would have to carry your doctor's prescription folded up behind the gum packet, though!

That makes sense. If you are using it for weight loss or trying to quit smoke, I can see a doctor giving a prescription for it.

It just seems sad to me that the children can't just have it to enjoy. I still remember the joy and amazement of learning to blow my first bubble. Gum is such a part of childhood, and to be unable to have it is something I have never imagined.

There is also something called (not to give a plug, here!) Aspergum...which is aspirin in gum form. Never used it, but for those who gag on pills, maybe it's a handy item to have.

I have heard of that. Now that you mention it, it makes me wonder if they have had to/now have to have a prescription for the nicotine control gums too.

Aspergum is WONDERFUL for a toothache! Pretty good for a sore throat, too.

I have never tried Aspergum, but I will keep it in mind for my next sore throat! I can imagne it works on contact, instead of having to wait the half hour or so that it takes for aspirin to travel through your system. (?)
