Oh Night Divine. (O Holy Night?)

For some reason, this song makes me feel all warm and weepy - Except for the South Park version, which really just killed it for me....

This will be even harder to decide on than the Christmas movies.....

I think I will say "Christmas Through Your Eyes" by Gloria Estefan.

I may change my mind after I think about it for a while

'Let it Snow'....no contest....second place is either of the two popular 'Ave Maria's (Bach/Gounod or Schubert). 'Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas' gets honourable mention....very sad.

You're right about Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas Magpie. Everytime I (try to) play it on the piano I get misty.

I think my favorite is Silver Bells. However, I have a version of Silent Night, Holy Night that I love to play on the piano.
Hard choice to make!

There is a marvelous recording which I just fell in love with the second I heard it. I always liked the song but this is very special.

David Bowie and Bing Crosby singing the Little Drummer Boy together. Their voices complimented each other so perfectly. There is also some very good dialogue before hand if you can get the right version.

Sadly, I think this piece is the last recorded work from Bing. He died a few weeks after..

Ok, my favorite Christmas Song is

"Little Drummer Boy" by David Bowie and Bing Crosby.

(I'd mentioned earlier that I would probably change my mind )

I like the Slade effort but I think it gets my third place. I really can't decide on first place. I really enjoy it when the Christians play the "Red Flag" (tannenbaum) for me especially if its the Sally Annie or in a Church. So I guess my favourite must be the bitter sweet "Fairy Tale of New York" by the Pogues and Kirsty McC.

I had a lot of lovely music we did with the Renaissance group with recorders for Christmas...really pretty stuff.
I'm thinking my favorite Christmas song is "What child is this?"

My least favorite is "O Holy Night" as it was often sung by inexperienced young girls at pageants and that horrid high note is like someone scratching a chalk board in the wrong person...oh horrors!
I already don't like high voices in general...but O Holy Night is one of the worst.

I prefer minor keys in general and I like carols that use them.
Oh yes, Burl Ives as the snowman singing "A Holly Jolly Christmas" on Rudolph the Red nose reindeer.

That one is one of my favorites too! My other favorite is "I Believed in Father Christmas" by Greg Lake.

Ummmm so many to mention but I will narrow it down to two for now

Merry Christmas (War is Over) John Lennon
Fairytale of New York The Pogues and Kirsty Mac Coll

I must agree with the Bing & Bowie Little Drummer Boy
I do have the dialogue at the begining and it is a lovely touch.

I was joking about the South Park version - that's the only Christmas cd I have!

I don't know if this counts, but how about It's Christmas in Heaven from The meaning of Life?

It's Christmas! It's Christmas in Heaven!
Hip hip hip hip hip hooray!
Every single day
Is Christmas day!

I'm not much of a holiday cheery person. But, Carol of the Bells sung by a very talented choir is very nice.

I'm going with Rita MacNeil --- any of the songs on her "Joyful Sounds: A Seasonal Collection" --- including"Once Upon A Christmas", "Mother Mary", "Christmas With My Family", "The Carollers", and "When The Bells Ring".

I'm also fond of "Little Drummer Boy" and "Mary's Boy Child".

When I was little, my favourite was Harry Belafonte's "Christmas Is Coming".

This really isn't a x-mas song but Hanukah. Sorry if I spelled that wrong. Adam Sandler sung the Hanukah song a while back and I loved it at first but now it just gets on my nerves.

I'm with Bruyere about "O Holy Night". It is a beautiful song but it take someone with a pretty spectactular voice to do it justice and I, too, prefer to hear a lower voice.

I think one of my favourite holiday songs would have to be "A Cradle in Bethlehem" sung originally by Nat King Cole, I think.
