Now that Australia have won the Ashes again there is the predictable discussion that they should get possesion of the actual Ashes that are always housed at Lords under MCC protection.

What do you think? To the victor go the spoils? Should the winner be able to take home the actual trophy instead of a replica or should it stay at Lords?

I'm happy for it to stay where it is, knowing the Australian players they'd try to drink champagne out of it, as small as it is.

Wherever the actual urn is, everyone who has any sort of knowledge about cricket can tell you who held 'The Ashes' at any particular time in history.
Every time Australia wins another series, the cries go out (no, not from the English players) to bring the urn to Australia. Perhaps one day, the media may find something else to report on, because it's just NOT GONNA HAPPEN!

I'd be happy to leave them at Lords. The Ashes trophy is only two inches high anyway. Big deal. The aussie players should be happy with a sovenier stump and a $50 drink voucher from the pub.

I'd reckon the poms wouldn't know where to find it anyway. They havent seen an ashes victory for so long, let alone a quality player ever since the Big Both retired. Poor buggers.

I think the Ashes should be in Australia (permanently!) after all they were first produced in 1882 following a newspaper article stated " the body (of English Cricket) will be cremated and the ashes taken to Australia". Seriously, The Ashes (the Little Urn) does not exist as a TROPHY for the series of games between England and Australia. The mythical Ashes that they play for is the cremated body of English Cricket (Not a Bail!) and as English Cricket is not yet completely dead (nearly but there have been even more miraculous recoveries - Lazarus spings to mind!) it cannot have been cremated and therefore there are No Ashes to play for.

Yes I do think (if it is possible to transport the little urn - it is made of wood and it is well over a hundred years old) that a tour of OZ could raise a fantastic amount of cash which could be ploughed back into the game at grass roots in OZ to ensure they have a reasonable team in 20/30 years time. That being said, very tongue in cheek, is precisely the reason that England and dare I say it West Indies are struggling at the moment - not enough youngsters are being attracted to the game.

The Ashes trophy has come to Australia, now don't quote me here, but I think it was for the Expo88 during our bicentennial year. I also think it's the closest we're getting to them
Isn't it funny that the Australians responding say to leave them there and the Englishman says to bring them out! Not the response I expected!
