Okay, I know in DOS there is a command that compares two different folders. Is there such a thing in Windows?

Reason is this: I back up My Documents to a zip disk. "In the beginning" I did not pay attention to that particular folder. I found out that I had saved documents to that folder on the C drive. I also saved files to My Documents on the Desktop. Get it? Two different My documents folders. (Ask how I discovered that! Couldn't find files I knew I had saved!)

So is there any way to compare the two "My Document" folders? Or how would I merge the two?

I don't think there is anything by way of a Windows operating system command that can be done to synchronise the two folders but there is software that will do it.

I had 'Briefcase' installed a while ago. It came as part of Microsoft Office. I didn't use it extensively but I think it performs the function of comparing one folder to another and updating changes made within them.

If anyone has 'Briefcase' installed as part of the 'Office' suite they would be better able to advise.

Apart from that there are other utilities. I don't have experience of any but if you go to a search engine and type: 'file synchronisation' (maybe with a 'z') there are quite a few choices of programs that compare/update the files held in two folders.

Thanks for the info Telly. I have Office 2002 Professional. I'll check there to see if I got Briefcase with the application.
