I'd like to know what you're having for lunch or dinner or breakfast...isn't it neat to find out what people are eating all over the world?

I made Christmas cookies yesterday, didn't have my stopwatch on, but they didn't last a long time. We had a gratin aux endives and broccoli...which had a nice sauce over endives after they'd been blanched.

The other day though, we made some excellent lasagna with a light herbed sauce, then layers of ricota and swiss chard filling...it was to die for...
so what are you having just now? Curious minds want to know!

Indicate any holiday specialities you might be having...no matter what the holiday, we don't care what it is!

By the way, Saint Nicolas just came through here with gingerbread men...kind of crispy with the figure of Saint Nicolas.
In Alsace they make these teeny little cookies that must have almonds ground up in them...and a bit of honey...and some icing...and, too bad I'm not up there any more...I'd eat some right now.

Just finished making my now famous (?) (since several people here at FunTrivia will now vouch for how addictive they are) "Brown Sugar Pecan Shortbreads", and some of my "Glazed Almond Cookies" (another shortbread cookie variation) yesterday --- still have to make my "Gumdrop Cake" though.

No breakfast for me! And today Mr. lefois and I are going to a posh "retiree" luncheon put on by his union at 1, so I have to save room! It's a seasonal turkey dinner with all the trimmings and then some! I suppose that means no dinner, either! I wonder if they'll let us take home the leftovers???? That's the best part!

My sock-it-to-me cake is in the oven and the boss informed me I was to order pizza tonight because she doesn't feel like cooking. Maybe I can find some of those "skinny" pills, too.

I take it all back. We didn't go to the "posh" dinner after all! The Mr. had to go to emergency last night and is home and better, but not quite up to it. He thought he was! Oh well. Truth time. I just had two hotdogs. geez.... He said maybe we'll order Chinese tonight instead.

We don't usually eat breakfast. Lunch today was leftovers. We had our Thanksgiving over the weekend (postponed because it worked out better to have it then), so today's lunch of leftovers was turkey, mashed potatoes, gravy, green bean casserole, dressing, macaroni and cheese, and rolls. Not too shabby for leftovers

Since Mr. Moo is at work, I will probably have a turkey sandwich later for dinner.

I need to do more baking so we have Christmas treats in the house. Probably this weekend, I will be making more of ElfTwinkle's Brown Sugar Pecan Shortbread cookies and some other cookies. If not this weekend, then early next week.

About eighteen cups of coffee and way too many smokes. Okay, that doesn't count as a meal, but I've been up all night working toward a deadline. I'm heading to my newspaper now, and (hopefully) I'll manage to eat something proper before crashing for fifteen hours. Hmmm.....a nice steak sounds good....with broccoli and roasted potatoes. Anyone volunteer to cook this for me, as I slide into a coma?

Magpie, you're taking the gonzo journalist diet a little too seriously...
I'd come over and play rent a mom right now...
We'll have to get you some Vitamin C for all that smoking, tsk tsk.
broccoli, yes...I'd do it with some rice and slice it into fairly slender slivers, then marinate some chicken with soy sauce, ginger and a bit of wine...and do that....sound good?
I'm on a pear streak, I love pears, they're about the nicest autumn winter type fruit I know.

Poire belle helene? You've had that, right? That's exquisite.

How did you know this???? Poire belle Helene is my favourite dessert of all time, Heather! I kid you not. There was a wonderful and well-known restaurant in Montreal, where I grew up....what was the name??? Argghh....it will come to me later, but anyway, their specialty was mussels, which I don't really care for. However, they made the most exquisite poire belle Helene I have ever tasted.....dark chocolate, with the whole pear soaked perfectly in liqueur, on french vanilla ice cream, topped with roasted almond slivers. I am not a big dessert freak, but this is truly my all time favourite.....GRRRR.....now you have made me crave this!

Well, you better enjoy it while it lasts, I'm on a streak these days.
Going out to the markets here, getting really good produce. (As my Dad says to my mother, "No, I feel like getting a bad head of lettuce", when she tells him to get "a nice head of lettuce".)
I don't know how this phase will last though..no telling...so Poire Belle helene is ordered, Teriyaki chicken and broccoli...rice. I'd probably put one of those lightly vinegared cabbage and carrot salads too.

Had Pumpkin pudding tonight, too lazy to make a crust, it's all gone though.
Just take a reasonable sized pumpkin or squash, steam it, then purée it, then add a can of that concentrated milk that's sweetened, or sweetened condensed milk, then an egg, nutmeg and cinnamon and bake for about 40 minutes.
I don't think I'd ever use pumpkin from a can any more.

'L'Actuel'.....that is the name of the restaurant. I knew it would come to me.
