How long are mouses(mice?) supposed to last? I don't seem to have had mine long, but it is behaving in a peculiar way, it sticks (yes i have cleaned it inside, )when the cursor is about half way down the screen, and at the moment is causing great frustration when I try to play something. I wondered if there is anything causing it, other than old age or wear?

Sometimes when my mouse sticks I notice the mousepad is not clean or has something stuck on it. And I hate vacuuming! But, after all the "pad" must be clean!

I don't know how they age Ren. I occasionally replace mine because they start to act funny, but mostly because there are so many "neater" ones than the one I have.

With my new computer I bought a wireless mouse and keyboard. I like the mouse because I have a tray that pulls out under my desktop and I can use it on either level without the cord getting in the way. However, it is possible that I will loose it under all the junk on my desk!

After going through four rollerball mouses(mice?) in two years, i finally bought an optical trackball..I have had it for two and a half years with absolutely no problem ren. They are only a pittance more expensive than a rollerball or trackball. No mousepad to mess with and very easy to manipulate. Good luck ..

My computer came with an optical mouse. I love it so much. I never realized how often mom's mouse sticks until after I got my computer and discovered the joy of the optical mouse. Now on the occasions I use mom's computer, I snarl at her mouse from time to time.

I don't have an optical mouse (when this breaks I might go for it... or even a nice wireless one so I can sit on my bed and watch tv shows or play games without having to sit so darn near my monitor)... But what I *do* have is the middle scrolling button on my mouse. i can't live without it! Being able to move pages down and make text bigger with the touch of a finger... I can't stand using computers that don't have one!

Optical is the way to go, just remember you need a good textured surface, and pay a bit more to get a better quality mouse, they definately last longer. I've had the same cordless Logitech mouse for about 3 years and it hasn't missed a thing.

When Henry is about a mouse doesn't last long, about two mouthfulls Oh, computer mouse, oh that - I scrape mine out from time to time with my fingernail when it sticks. Those in the office don't last long, they are Compaq - about three or four have given up after only just over a year.

Really? I've had nothing but luck with the Compaq ones... My current one I've had over a year with no problems, haven't even needed to clean it. (Of course, I do use one of those nice thin plastic mouse pads, not the thick ones that hold a lot of dust in them, so that might help...)

We bought twelve Compaq computers less than two years ago, two of them have had to have replacement hard drives already and they don't get a lot of use. I am not impressed, perhaps we have just been unlucky.

Funny - my mouse has lasted really long after hearing all this. It is a plain old mouse (three - button Logitech), it served me good for 6 years. Even more amazing is the fact that I have really 'abused' the Mouse while playing games like Diablo.

Cleaning , at most, has been only a handful of times!

Could be Ace that because it's a logitech, and logitech has been making mice since before windows infected...er was introduced to the market.

Logitech and Mitsumi have made the best (longest-lasting)
input devices that I have personally seen, I'm PC support for the company I work with. You would not belive some of the gunk I have cleaned out of Keyboards, Mice, Printers, CD and floppy drives.

couldn't agree with you, Wizard - Thank God, these Mices don't have compatibilty issues (at least, not that much). Simplest hardware available, I am sure Windows will come up with something soon ...

I was surfing something else, then I thought about this thread, it's about my mouse.
It's Logi, and I really love it. Sad for a mouse.
Someone said before, middle scrollbar, Yes. left button normal office stuff, right hand copy/paste, thumb button is double jump, and extra on middle, press and hyperjump.

I think a mouse is quite personal, it does get clean when it needs it. Dewaxing, extracting the fluff by tweesers and very small screwdriver, bit of babyoil ( kids.

But I'm sold, next one will be optical.....

I am very fond of my mouse, very plain and simple it is too, left, right and a scrolling wheel in the middle that I never use. It came with my HP computer and should it break down I have a very similar one in a box waiting to replace it. I can't be doing with these new fangled things, not having a lead isn't natural for a mouse

I'm with you. Imagine if you know that you'll be away from home for a few days. If you know your mouse and just happen to have it with you , you're at peace.

Have you seen the mice with the ball up top, do they work as well, I'm interested, because I'm a 'Hotdesker', my job, I have to adapt

Tut, remotes having adventures, not in my house! My remotes are lined up in a neat row all aimed at the TV, video, Sky box - I don't have to move them, just poke at the buttons I would add that I live alone, when my daughter visits the whereabouts of the remotes are less predictable and a constant source of frustration.

Remotes live in here. Different colours SCOTLAND . The more remotes that you have, the less they children know which one you're using. Knowledge is dangerous, ignorance appears to be Bliss.

I had a Microsoft mouse ages ago but it went fairly quickly so I got a Logitech one. I've had this one so long that the plastic has worn smooth on the buttons and sides but it still works very well. Yup, I like Logitech too.

I might get a cordless optical mouse with the next computer but if I do I'll stick with the Logitech make.

Russ

For what it is worth, the pointing devices with the ball on top are referred to as track-balls, usually listed with mouse and keyboards. Generally they are more expensive, but users I've worked with in the past claim they are easier to control.
One of our workers-comp doctors claim they are less stressful on the wrist and help minimize the effects of Carpal Tunnel, Repetitive motion syndrome.

Telly, Logitech have a cool one out now which I'm hoping to scam off my friends from Logi when next in Sydney.. It's cordless, optical and sits in a neat rechargable unit when not in use.. very posh.. never have to replace batteries!
