I thought the movie was pretty good. It had a few rough spots for a true fan of the series, but overall it was well written and acted.

I liked the movie. A couple things:

1. Why did they let Troi pilot the ship again? Remember what happened the last time? She crashed it into a planet.

2. WHY were the 4 most senior officers on the away team onto the Romulan ship? You had Picard, Riker, Troi, and Data (plus Worf, but I forget what rank he is). Did they leave an Ensign running the ship?

3. Janeway outranks Picard! Janeway outranks Picard! (Sorry - my brother insists that Picard could kick her butt and a coworker keeps saying that it's no contest - Sisko could kick both Janeway and Picard's butts at the same time.)

4. Tom Paris could give Picard some piloting and driving lessons. And while he's at it, let Troi take some as well.

5. The self-destruct thing malfunctioning never happened to Janeway. When she wanted to use it, it worked

6. Why PICARD? Why not clone an admiral? Or even the President of the Federation for that matter?

7. Janeway outranks Picard!

8. Could Troi have behaved a little more professionally in the last bridge scene? I mean, you don't see Geordi rushing up to hug Worf or anything

9. Did I say that Janeway outranks Picard?

10. Does anyone NOT want to destroy Earth? I mean in First COntact it was the Borg, etc. Doesn't anyone ever want to destroy a place like the Vulcan home planet? Betazed? Risa?

I confess I was disappointed in the movie - mainly, I didn't believe that the villain (Shinzon) was charismatic enough or clever enough to have so many people following him so blindly. His leadership style basically consisted of "Shut up, I know what I'm doing," which is generally an ineffective way of running a conspiracy.

Nor did I believe that a population of oppressed miners who never saw the sun, would have the ability to construct, in their free time, a state-of-the-art starship with weapons technology that had eluded researchers for generations.

Nor could I understand why Shinzon was so set on blowing up Earth. What did he have against Earth? Wouldn't it have made more sense for him to blow up Romulus?

I thought it flowed like an even-numbered movie, but plotwise, was more like an odd-numbered one. And I was disappointed by what they did at the end. I got the sense that it was along the lines of, "OK, we'll kill off everyone's favorite. NOW will you quit making us do more films?"
