Teresa Milbrandt, an Ohioan mother of a seven-year-old, tricked her community into donating money to her by convincing them that her daughter, Hannah, had cancer.

Milbrandt even shaved Hannah's head to prove it, but beyond that, this is where the story gets really sick. She put Hannah into counseling to prepare for death.

The little girl didn't know the whole ordeal was a fraud!

Police were alerted to the situation after people at the Hannah's school realized that her head had been shaved and that her hair wasn't falling out.

This IS very sick, but somehow it doesn't surprise me. I've sort of been wondering for a few years now just when some low-life would figure out that there was a butt-load of money to be made out of "My Daughter Is Dying of Cancer".

Just another reason why insurance companies in this country (or at least their major stockholders) should all be taken out and shot. If they were paying claims like they should be, most people with a severe disease wouldn't be reduced to begging their neighbors for help, after paying huge insurance premiums for years and years.

I agree completely, MsBatt! I think it is horrible to pay so much in insurance premiums only to find out that most of what you need covered won't be! It is sad that people have to beg for help, hold fundraisers, put coffee cans with donation signs on them in stores, etc, just to help with the burden of medical bills. It kind of makes me wonder why we even have to pay the premiums if we aren't going to get more coverage. Even with some of the minor things I have gone to the doctor for, I have been amazed at how little insurance covers.

I read that article the other day, it is made me very sad. It is horrible that people are sick enough to use their children as a way to scam money out of others. It shows just how little the woman cares for her daughter!
