Supposing its true, it seems a very strange case - while people can play God (when it comes to environmental destruction), it seems a huge mindblock that people seem to have that we can't create life. If not today, we all will have to admit it will become a reality some time soon - maybe the process is not perfect now but imagining a world of'perfect' human beings is beyond imagination at the present moment

Have they made up the evidence yet errrrr sorry Have they "gathered" the evidence yet? This is one of those things I will never believe. Don't you think they would have had ALL the evidence there to begin with if this was true? I have no clue what the reason would be for them not having it there at the time of the press conference other than they don't have any and need to make it up. This isn't someone saying they invented a new type of straw, it's a major event in science discovery. If they do have the "evidence" to back all this up they delieverd the news very badly in my opinion. Now people like me will never believe them cause they have 7-10 days to make up all the evidence they want.

Another thing, can anyone give me a link to some info on their religious beliefs? I'm interested and want to find out more.

How true! A world full of perfectly beautiful, perfectly intelligent, perfectly healthy people seems to me like it would be perfectly boring!

Some say all of this hoopla may be just a publicity stunt.

Lmao......Well there "Mission" is accomplished. The objective, the way I see it, was to catch the eye of everyone to look at their new found religion. What better way to do this than tell people you made clones of humans, a major topic for many, and leave people in suspense waiting for the proof. You know for a fact that this is being talked about on all the news stations, morning programs and local news. This was a good way to recruit some people for their "religion" and maybe get some donations to help out there "research".

You make a lot of sense, Reap! I never thought of it that way. This could very well be a recruiting/awareness campaign on their part. Everyone is certainly thinking about and talking about them. While everyone is waiting for their "proof", they eyes and minds of the world are focused on them.

The media certainly has given them their share of invaluable free publicity. I find it rather humorous that the media was there in droves to record the announcement and now they are trying to discredit the very group that they gave prime media attention to. Is the media trying to save face now that they realize they were grossly manipulated and possibly duped?

You have a good point, Diehard. The media seems to jump the gun on alot of stories. In the attempt to be the first with a story, they don't always check to see if there is even a story there. It is sad that it has come to the point where it is more important to be first with a story than it is to be accurate with a story.

The good part of it is there are so many sensational news stories that the general public moves on to the next one quickly.

Russ5, here are some definations to help aleviate your confusion.

Eugenics---the study of artificial selection (thru controlled matings) versus natural selection (or uncontrolled, random matings) towards a particular set of desired characteristics.
By defination, eugenics involves sexual reproduction, wherein the offspring carries characteristics of both parents.

Cloning---the asexual reproduction of an individual, wherein all the cells are identical to a single ancestor. We do this all the time with plants, when we divide clumps or root cuttings. (By its strictest defination, so far this has only happend in the animal kingdom when single-celled organisms divide.)

Dolly the sheep does NOT meet this strictly scientific defination, nor does any mammal cloned to date. The only kind of "cloning" that we have ben able to accomplish involves inserting a cell nucleus into a donor egg, and this donor egg contains its own mitochondrial DNA. (Mitochondrial DNA is normally inherited only thru one's mother, as it resides in the yolk of the egg. Sperm do not contain any mitochondrial DNA.)

Now, this said, it should be obvious to you that eugenics has been practised, and very successfully, for thousands of years. How do you think we wound up with dogs as diverse as the Chihuahua and the Irish Wolfhound? (*grin*)

(Religion has also been practised for thousands of years, but considerably less successfully.)

And let me highlight that eugenics deals with IMPROVING the race or breed, whereas cloning involves keeping it exactly the same.

Thank you for the explanation, I'm a bit wet behind the ears, and occasionally miss the point, but I must admit that I'm learning, albeit a 'bit' slowly.

I'm guessing they legalized "it" and Russ is just trying to have some fun with you guys or trying to make a point in his own odd little way. I seen today the person who was to come foward with all the evidence has backed down because he lacks it. BIG SURPRISE to me. I also heard (from FOX news so you can't trust it yet) that they already have people sending them donations and wanting to join their religion.....

BAD IDEA

Hey! I know! You could start your own "cult" where you entice people to sit around all day thinking of answers to challenge bowls and other difficult questions. Oh wait! You've already got that here

Another doubt : I get these sinister thoughts at times: If cloning is possible and becomes a reality, then DNA tests will no longer be valid (for that fingerprints, footprints etc ) - wonder what the cops will do to catch the murderers, rapists and the whole LOT!

Because we all look alike brother, we'll be 'tagged', with the police having, (with every one else), equipment that could detect and detain us. The future is much larger than cloning.
