LOL, no worries Kev, I have two older brothers that I followed around all the time, hence the football and cricket being ingrained in my very being.

Ozzz? ALSO? oh dear!

Steve Rodgers the footballer was the only one I could think of too ... wondered how he found time to play cricket.

I hope my mate is going to e-mail me to explain the last few mails. It would appear the OZ sports scene has a lot more to explain than Shane Warnes slimming habits. Still I can't see anyone beating them this year, credit where credits due, Kenya in the Final would be interesting!

Oh I can see AUSTRALIA losing and NOT definitely to Kenya

After all the trouble I went through to convince the FT community about the futility of supporting Australia; the only person I have managed to convince is myself!

it's past 1:30am, but it was worth staying up
Sri Lanka are 7 for 99 and it's time to hit the sack, we're safe (I hope!)

GTHO4 - you should have stayed up 10 minutes longer - RAIN STOPPED PLAY!. Austraia win on Duckworth/Lewis by 50 odd runs. And just when the Sri Lankan tail was starting to wag (lol) 7 for 123 the final score.
A word of praise for an Aussie! Thank you Adam Gilchrist for showing that sportsmanship does still exist, a semi-final, and you walked! (even though the umpire had said NOT OUT)Let's just hope that the spirit catches on and cricket goes back to being the gentlemens game and not one judged by TV replays.

well said, and I second the motion -- it was all over our newspapers this morning e.g.
OPENER Adam Gilchrist demonstrated that cricket can still be a "gentleman's game." Gilchrist, also the vice captain, walked after being adjudged not out to a caught behind appeal off part-time offspinner Aravinda de Silva in the World Cup semifinal against Sri Lanka. In previous eras, it was normal for a batsman to walk - without needing the umpire to adjudicate - if he knew he was out. As the sport has become more professional and with bigger salaries and prizemoney on offer, this kind of sportsmanship has almost disappeared. It is extremely rare for a batsman to walk, and almost unheard of after the umpire has rejected an appeal. Australian players are known for their aggression, taking every advantage of the rule book, and Gilchrist's sporting gesture will go down in sporting folklore.

Okay its an India Vs Australia final..... On 23rd/March/2003

Looking at the performances of all the teams in this world, I could say (despite all those surprises in between) the best two are in the finals!

Whom I support is quite obvious, isn't it?

I'd like to 'third' it.

Adam is obviously a believer in that great life leveller..."It's just not cricket!" and I congratulate him wholeheartedly for that.

To do something like this in the semi-final of a "World Cup", shows what a true 'Sports'man he is.

In these times of mass over-commercialization of our beloved sport,(ie sport in general! ), it is refreshing to see a 'player' who really appreciates the meaning of the word.............. SPORT !

Thanx Adam and good luck in the final. and of course, being a true sportsman myself ......I'd also like to wish India all the best too.

Ace, I think most people would agree with you. It's unusual to have the best two teams in the final (in any competition, in any sport). Should be an interesting night in my household. I'm born and bred in Sydney and my wife's born and bred in Bombay!! Regardless of the fact she's lived here for nearly 20 years, she's going for India. This has led to her copping great questions from our 4 year old son about where her loyalties lie, although I would have to admit if the boot was on the other foot I'd still be be singing "Ooh Aah, Glenn McGrath"!

Kevin, whilst questioning the "two best teams in the world in the final" I do hope that they both play to the best of their ability and we have a Cricket Match to enjoy. I can't say I'm in favour of either team so I'll just sit back and enjoy the game.
Good luck to both teams - make it a good one!

Aussie, Aussie, Aussie!

What a game! 2/359 was a score that was never going to be beaten, but the Indians sure gave it a red-hot go!

Bring on the Windies!

World Records for one day games galore - A great days cricket and congratulations to the Oz team on a job well done. My congratulations to the Indian Team for not giving up and making it a great final (I'm really glad that D/L didn't come into play and India won on 26 overs (OR WHATEVER).
It would have been a farce of a result if the game hadn't been completed and the team batting second won, because they knew beforehand how many runs they needed at half way.
Congratulations the Aussie Team on taking the Trophy - YOU DESERVED IT!

RU World Cup, eh? I wonder if we can fit a few more trophies in the cabinet? It would look nice, just next to the Frank Worrell Trophy

PS.. we never get sick of being congratulated..

Ozz - I've said well done (and I really do mean it) but when it comes to the crunch I don't think the Aussies have an answer to the Leicester Tigers or the current England Team which is missing several players through injury!
We'll cross swords again for the Rugby World Cup but for now I really do congratulate the Aussie team for their performance during the Cricket World Cup - UNDEFEATED sums it up for me True World Champions!.

Must say - Aussies played really well!

The rest of us (this includes the Indians, English and the whole lot!) - Don't worry - we will get them at 2007 WC(if NOT, 2011 or 2015.........)
